Pipeline by Alison Cooke, is the first part of a site-responsive project that pays tribute to the work of pioneering Victorians ceramicist Henry Doulton and engineer Joseph Bazalgette, in constructing London's life-saving sewer system, a network that connected all its citizens.
The project uses clay excavated from London’s future sewer, currently under construction, to make a series of pipes that refer to the extruding process, salt glazing techniques and temperature firing experiments that made Doulton's non-porus ceramic pipes key to the safe transportation of London's sewage.
