Flowerheart leaped across the empty moor, sinking her claws into a rabbit. It squealed under her claws, and she quickly bent forward, sinking the teeth into its neck and feeling it go limp. She picked it up and headed towards the small pile of sand she had made to cover her previous catches.

She uncovered the pile, and moved the two other rabbits under her chin, keeping the rabbit she just caught in her mouth.

It smelled familiar, but everything did here, so she ignored it.

She approached the undergrowth that held the path back to camp, and thought of Oakstorm, suffering from a sickness while still caring for kits. He needed it, the elders needed it, and she would help them.

Flowerheart passed the Twisted Tree and pushed through the bushes that hid camp. She approached the dwindling fresh kill pile and added her rabbits to it. Her mother lifted her head from her father’s head, blinking over at her.

“You’ve returned!” Sandclaw mewed, getting up and approaching Flowerheart.

The light brown tabby bowed her head to her mother, the, looked back up. “Is Tigerfur doing okay? How about Mistyear? Are they sick? Do they need food? I just hunted so-”

"You are fine. The elders are doing well right now, dear." Sandclaw looked over to Tigerfur, who was looking at her, bleary eyed. Sandclaw blinked for a few moments, then seemed to realize something. "Oooh, I was taking care of your father, right! I..." She blinked. "...right. I will... See you later, Flowerheart."

Flowerheart watched as Sandclaw padded towards Tigerfur, and she turned around, looking for the nursery. She couldn't help but laugh when she spotted Ripplekit and Webkit running, yipping, from one of the five moon old kits, Boulderkit.

Flowerheart stood up straight, and the kits tumbled over her paws. In a joking voice, she said, "On an important mission, kits?"

"Not as important as yours was!" Ripplekit yelled, hopping on her paws. "I really, really want to go on a mission like that, I would definitely be a leader then!"

Flowerheart winced, but quickly mewed, "I truly proved myself as a good deputy by taking that mission upon myself. Guess Starclan really wanted me as a leader here!" She flicked an ear. "Wouldn't know why."

"Its because you cared for all of us, enough to talk to all of us if we didn't seem normal." Boulderkit sat down, looking at Flowerheart with a serious look on her face. "My dad said you would be a good leader due to this!"

Flowerheart wondered why Stripestar didn't choose her more serious sister. The tabby let her fur bathe in the sun for a while longer, but then got on her paws. "Enjoy yourselves, kits," Flowerheart mewed, "who knows when Starclan will randomly choose you for the greatest mission known to our history?"

Flowerheart walked away, and heard a mock yowl rise from behind her. She couldn't help but laugh again. These kits would be great, she could tell by the way they seemed to click with her. Maybe she should get another apprentice? Might help her mind out, that was for sure...
