Target Fish Genus: Terapon Species: T. jarbua Maximum Size: 14” Aggression: High Temperature: 75-82 F pH: 7.8-8.2 Hardness: 15-25 dH Brackish Tolerance: 1.002-1.025 Minimum Tank Size: 125 gallons Feeding: Flakes when smaller, high quality pellets, frozen shrimp/krill, chopped shellfish and fish Notes: The Target fish is very uncommonly found in the aquarium trade and are named after their target pattern (as seen from above). They are large, active, boisterous fish that are best kept in very large tanks to match. There is some evidence that these fish in the wild are schooling fish and groups of these fish (kept in massive tanks) may cut down on aggression.
The Target Fish are scale and fin nippers and can only be kept with large brackish fish that are boisterous or can defend themselves: Scats, Monos, and larger Archerfish species. Target fish are very predatory and will consume tankmates that are less than half their size. Even with large tankmates, they are capable of doing damage, though the extent is likely not severe.
Plastic plants (especially plastic vallisneria - resembles seagrass) and rock work are appreciated but these fish spend most of their time out in the open. They are not known for being overly shy fish.
