Do you know the Tigridias or tiger flower? This is a wild plant of Mexico , which has the greatest diversity of them and new species are documented annually, given its importance in the Tenancingo University Center of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx) unique in its type at the level national are dedicated to the conservation of it.

43 species
The university professor and researcher, Luis Miguel Vázquez García, explained that at the national level there are 43 species of the also known as tiger flower. Of these, 15 are housed in the Tigridias Conservation Center, which is based in this university space.
He indicated that the Tigridia Conservation Center of the UAEMéx Tenancingo University Center, for which he is responsible, is unique at the national level and since 1994 it has preserved the germplasm -genes and environment of the 15 species collected in various parts of the national territory.
“We made the first collections in the Mexican municipality of Temascaltepec, where there is a wide variety of tigridia pavonia; However, the 43 species that exist in Mexico are distributed in 90 percent of the national territory; 80 percent are endemic to our country.

He added that one of the purposes of the Center is to disseminate the characteristics of the flower, in order to promote the conservation of its different species and the Week of the Tigridias is the ideal event to achieve this purpose.
"At this event, visitors can enjoy the beauty of this flower, in addition to knowing how we manage it in almost one hectare and under a strict model of biological work, without the use of agrochemicals.
Tigridia pavonia (Iridaceae)
Oceloxóchitl, tigridia, flor del ocelote, flor de un día, flor de tigre, ojo de pavo, hierba de la trinidad, lirio azteca, iris tigre, trinitaria, cacomite.
Se usa principalmente como planta de ornato, sus bulbos son comestibles y también se emplea como medicinal (antipirética).
