"Poems are a dressing for my wounds"
Till Lindemann in an October 2013 interview with Basler Zeitung.
What makes a rock hero? We pull apart the RAMMSTEIN and LINDEMANN mainman to find out fig.1 – We’ve seen some pretty crazy things “
From a Kerrang interview. Till looks so good here! Also: I love the big collection of old and new interviews from the Rammstein Press page.
Till on dealing with stage fright.
“When we started with Rammstein we extended the intros because we did not have enough material to full up a whole show. That was nice for the rest of the band, but I was getting so bored. Then I brought a friend who had some knowledge about fireworks.
"We started very simple with burning my arm, but the audience loved it immediately. The rest of the group responded divided. Some thought it would drawn the attention away from the music. Could be, but at least something is happening. Everyone likes a bit of circus, right? And it also helps to control my stage fright."
“Excuse me?” Does the frontman of one of the most roughest stadium bands suffer from stage fright? He nods. “I was already peeing my pants when I used to have to give a lecture in class. And I still suffer from that. That is also the reason that I don't talk in between the songs. Furthermore it breaks the mood. "What can I tell? Hello Antwerp, how are you today? Because I do not see the added value in it. Leave that kind of chit-chat over to Robbie Williams. He can. In the meantime I will play a bit with one of our flamethrowers.”
Lindemann interview De Morgen Belgium June 24, 2015(From Lindemann Belgium)
Being Till Lindemann.
“It must not be easy to be Lindemann either, you think when you observe him in the hotel lobby, where he is getting ready to head for a music video recording session. Around twenty men are constantly circling around Lindemann; people from the record label, managers, media professionals. They are pulling on him, talking to him. Pushy passers-by who recognize Lindemann are kept away from him. Lindemann, a 56-year-old guy, stands amidst that commotion like the Sphinx of Giza among the pyramid tourists. He must also be tired of all this fuss.”
21.11.19 interview with de Volksrant.
Till on meeting his daughters' boyfriends.
NL: And what is Till Lindemann himself as a father? In this book, a lot of poems about women were written here. And how does Till as a Father refer to such brutal lyrics to his daughters?
Till: Regarding my daughters, I am an absolute Buddhist. Otherwise, I would not survive. When my daughters bring their boyfriends home, my first reaction is “OK, where is my baseball bat?” I want to immediately talk to these boys like a man. But I stop, I say to myself: "Breathe deeply, think about the good, remember yourself." So when another idiot comes to our house to meet me, I say hello and behave very nicely. And then I go out into another room and: “AAAA!” (Laughs). I try to be nice, kind and friendly, because I do not want to hurt my daughters, I do not want them to move away from me. Whatever boy they bring, I greet him kindly: “Good afternoon! Come in, do you want a drink? Water? Vodka? ”I offer a drink, and then, when they get drunk to the point of unconsciousness, their gut comes out. My daughter looks at me and shouts: “Dad, what have you done, why does he behave this way, I thought about him completely differently, why did you give him a drink ...” I just spread my arms. I did not do anything - it was he himself. (Laughs.) My daughters simply come to the conclusion that this is not the choice they deserve.
Till in a 2018 interview with Forbes.Ru From Rammstein Belgium.
Till’s idea of a great night probably isn’t most people’s.
(So to explain, there’s a new Russian edition of Messer which is literally sprinkled with Till’s actual blood on the pages.)
NL: Is it your blood?
Till: Yes. Great idea, right? It was in Moscow. Yes, it happened right here in the opposite hotel. Gleb! (Till's friend and project manager Gleb Davydov joins the conversation) It was somewhere here we decided to fill everything with blood?
G. D: Yes, it is here.
T. L .: Exactly! I remember it was terribly difficult to find a sharp knife.
GD: The first two were too blunt. Nothing happened. We sat in a hotel room, it was five in the morning. I, of course, will never forget this. Five in the morning, the hotel, vodka, I looked at the bloody Till and said: "I found a normal knife, let's do it."
T.L .: The first incision did not work - the blood did not flow.
GD: The second was about a centimeter.
T. L .: (Shows the scars on the arm.) One of these. See, this one, it's deeper.
G. D: Everything was soaked with blood! Me, all the papers, the floor...
T.L .: Excellent, it's such a horror movie for Halloween. Bloody horror in the spirit of Rammstein. (Laughs.)
GD: Pure rock and roll! A bottle of vodka and a glass of blood.
T.L .: We went to Anar's room (Anar Reiband, Till Lindemann's friend).
GD: And they began sprinkling the sheets with blood, until they managed to dry out. We went and brought Till sheets.
T.L .: It was a great night!
GD: Then I drank vodka all at once because otherwise it was impossible to deal with these emotions. Everything was covered in blood: the white walls, sheets of paper, the floor, my hands - everything!

Interview by ROCK SVERIGE (Swedish online rock magazine) 2015 with Till Lindemann about the album "Skills in Pills". Part 2/2.
Interview is in English
~~~~~~~~~~
Does that happen a lot, that song ideas grow on you over time?
Till: (...) One of the hardest on the album was “Golden shower”. It took six or seven months. Everything was done except the chorus and then one day, in Peter´s studio actually, we put three voices on top of it and put a lot of reverb on it, but it wasn´t catchy. Then out of the blue came “C*nt!” and it was amazing. I love the Chorus because it took so long to come up with. It´s such a small thing, but it means everything and now it´s perfect. I looked in the dictionary for words that rhymes with “c*nt”, like blunt and grunt. I love it!
Till on his relationship with his Father.
Till, if your father was alive, would you give him a book of your poems?
Till: I don’t know. I had a very difficult relationship with my father. But I often think about him. Recently in Germany, the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung came out with a special application, where 10 writers, musicians, and artists turned to their dead fathers, wrote letters to them. My mom gave me a read. And I always come back to this thought, I think, what would I say if I could write a letter to him now.
Very interesting project. Quite unexpectedly, he made a serious daily socio-political newspaper. To write a letter to your father, with whom you will never be able to talk, is, of course, a story about forgiveness, about memory. Can you forgive? Can your inner child grow up, accept and release? Very interesting stuff. And I, of course, it caused a special interest for me. I honestly asked myself if I could take part in this project, and honestly answered that I was not ready. I would refuse. I can’t even start this conversation with my father.
