Translation of Paul's interview for Cotonete TV (Portugal, 08.11.2009), aka the giant q-tip interview

This is a translation of the Portuguese voice-over, not what Paul said originally in German. So there may be some inconsistencies. My German is not the best so I didn't verify if the audible bits are translated correctly. The transcription of the PT voice-over is after this if you want to check it out 🇩🇪 -> 🇵🇹 -> 🇬🇧

Rammstein are back on stage and to the recording studio with “Liebe ist für alle da”, which translates to "Love Is For Everyone". Cotonete TV spoke to guitarist Paul Landers just a few hours before the concert at the Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon, the kickoff for the German band's world tour, known for the spectacular nature of their live performances.

It's going to be a great show, as usual. Lots of light, lots of explosions, there will be some new things too. It's the first show of the tour, so we hope everything goes smoothly.

What was like to record a new album after a year's break?

After half an hour together in the studio, no one could remember that we'd been apart for a year. Everything was just the same. It felt like seeing a friend you haven't seen in years. It's a if you'd never been apart. Personally I had absolutely no desire to start playing again. But they convinced me by arguing that it had to be now. Now is the time to record.

Quit Rammstein?

No. Come to think of it, maybe yes. But once you think back on how much fun we had as a band, you quickly forget all the less pleasant parts and and all that remains are the fabulous experiences we went through.

Album title

"Liebe ist für alle da". Coming up with a title for a record is always complicated. It always requires a lot of imagination. We would have liked to have come up with a better one, but that’s how it turned out. "Liebe ist für alle da" - Love is for everyone.

Pussy?

As soon as the song was written down, the word "Pussy" was right there in the middle. We ended up writing the whole thing in English, but some people didn't like it, so we ended up having German lyrics as well as English ones.

What about the video?

We had fun filming it, but we were also really scared. It was almost like going to the dentist - I had to work up the courage. We thought about putting girls on stage, but the result was a bit embarrassing, so we never did it again.

Are Rammstein becoming more and more provocative?

We like to provoke, and that's our trademark [?*]. Even when we don’t mean to provoke, the result ends up being provocative. We play the innocent, just like teenagers getting into trouble. Journalists think we’re calculating. But no, it’s pure and simple stupidity.

*I couldn't figure out what was said in this part. The voice-over guy's diction is a bit tricky to understand and the audio quality doesn't help either. It sounded like "Fizemos sexo" (We had sex) but I'm not sure tbh. It doesn't make sense, grammatically speaking.

Os Rammstein estão de regresso aos palcos e aos discos com “Liebe ist für alle da”, título que traduzido significa “O amor é para todos”. O Cotonete TV esteve à conversa com o guitarrista Paul Landers, poucas horas antes do concerto no Pavilhão Atlântico em Lisboa, o pontapé de saída para a digressão mundial da banda alemã, conhecida pela espetacularidade que imprime às suas apresentações ao vivo.

Vai ser um grande espetáculo como de habitual. Muita luz, muita explosão, vai haver coisas novas. É o primeiro da digressão, por isso esperamos que tudo funcione como deve ser.

Como foi gravar um disco depois de um ano de pausa?

Depois de meia hora juntos no estúdio já ninguém se lembrava que tinha passado um ano de separação. Estava tudo na mesma. A sensação é a mesma que ver um amigo que não vias há muitos anos. É como se nunca se tivessem afastado. Eu pessoalmente não tinha vontade nenhuma de voltar a tocar. Mas convenceram-me com o argumento de que tinha que ser agora. Agora é o momento para gravar.

Desistir dos Rammstein?

Não. Talvez pensando um pouco, seja sim. Mas depois de relembrar o que nos divertimos como banda, rapidamente esqueces tudo o que foi menos agradável e só ficam as coisas fabulosas pelas quais passámos.

Título do disco

"Liebe ist für alle da". Ver um nome para um disco é sempre complicado. Exige sempre muita imaginação. Até gostávamos de ter dado um nome melhor, mas ficou assim. "Liebe ist für alle da" – O amor é para todos.

Pussy?

Mal a canção apareceu no papel, tinha logo lá no meio o nome "Pussy". Nós acabámos por escrever tudo em inglês mas houve quem não gostasse e então acabou por ter uma letra também em alemão, além do inglês.

E o vídeo?

Divertimo-nos a filmar, mas também estamos com muito medo. Foi quase como ir ao dentista, precisei de ganhar coragem. Pensámos em pôr meninas no palco, mas o resultado foi um bocado envergonhador, por isso nunca mais fizemos.

Rammstein cada vez mais provocadores?

Gostamos, e queremos provocar, é a nossa marca [?]. Mesmo quando não queremos provocar, o resultado acaba por ser provocador. Fazemo-nos de ingénuos, assim como adolescentes a fazer asneiras. Os jornalistas acham que nós somos calculistas. Mas não, é estupidez pura e dura.

BOTS AND SCAM COMMENTS ON AO3

WHAT THEY ARE AND HOW TO SPOT THEM

okay, I thought I should make this post since there has been an influx of scammers plaguing AO3 comments section and people are falling victims to them. so here it is;

WHAT THEY ARE

so far, there are three main types of these scam bots

bots that tell you AO3 is deleting works, and that you should delete the works yourself because your entire account will be affected if your works get deleted by AO3

bots that tell you your works are terrible

bots that tell you they want to draw comic panels from your works

ALL OF THESE ARE SCAM WITH MALICE INTENTIONS

bots that tell you AO3 is deleting works, and that you should delete the works yourself because your entire account will be affected if your works get deleted by AO3 are just trying to get you to delete your works, most certainly because they want to steal and/or use your works to train their AI and, once you delete your works, it becomes extremely difficult, almost impossible for you to claim ownership of your works when the original works have been deleted. AO3 IS NOT DELETING ANY WORKS.

bots that tell you they want to draw comic panels from your works are trying to hack your password, personal data and credit card information (they will say they see potentials in your work and are interested in drawing comic panels from it, and then they will ask you to discuss this with them on discord where you will have to pay/commission them for the “comics” you will never get, but you will get your password hacked, personal data and credit card information breached and stolen instead, do not fall for them).

HOW TO SPOT THEM

what all these 3 types of bots have in common is that;

most of them (keyword, most, not all) are guest users or empty accounts that have just been recently created.

their comments are all the same copied and pasted scripts that they mass leave on lots of authors’ works at random.

they will ask you to contact them outside of ao3 by giving you their discord, or instagram, or other social media handle.

their comments are all vague, in the sense that there will be no mention of any specific characters’ names, no mention of any specific scenes or events from your works (granted, they need to be vague because they are bots, they never actually read your works, and they have to be able to use the same comments on other writers’ works too).

EDIT: I’ve been told they got “smarter” and are now mentioning characters by names and also specific scenes from the story. Most definitely because they ran your fic through AI and let AI write comments for them. So basically, if a comment, from someone you don’t know, ends in something along the lines of “I’d like to draw a comic panel about this”, “can we chat on discord (or anywhere outside of ao3)” or anything that’d require your email or other personal information, always assume that it’s 90% a scam.

report them for spam then delete their comments when/if you get them.

please spread this if you can. us writers gotta look out for each other. stay safe, everybody ♡

I think one of the funniest abortion stances I've heard was from my parents neighbor. He's a like, hard-core libertarian viking larper guy who is very tall and very fat and very bald.

He believes a fetus is human with a soul, but also its "basically attacking the woman's body" so if she wants to get rid of it, that's "basically self-defense". He compared it to shooting a home invader. So he supports abortion not as healthcare, but as killing a baby in self-defense

Y'know I'm so glad someone reminded me of this. Because this was also discussed.

My stepmother did NOT like the way her Libertarian Viking Neighbor framed pregnancy as the fetus "attacking the woman". She incredulously told him this was extremely disrespectful to expectant mothers to portray pregnancy as so violent and negative.

Libertarian Viking Neighbor's response was that people consensually hurt each other all the time, and "there's like a whole community about that, with the acronym the one that starts with a B" And his reasoning was that if the mother was consenting to bring attacked by the baby, it in fact wasn't violent and negative because there was consent.

He brought up people consensually hurting each other, didn't go for one of the obvious answers like boxing or body mods or something, no he went STRAIGHT TO BDSM and he DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE ACRONYM

#or maybe he didn't want to say the acronym out loud? In case that lady would faint or clutch her pearls even harder..#But yes..a fetus is literally a parasite! A very glorified parasite to some..but still a parasite that feeds of whoever is pregnant #You can end up losing your teeth for example because the baby may take all the calcium ..or how you spell it #I think its weird how people are not that afraid of pregnancy tbh..you have a PERSON growing inside of you??
