Bassist Tim Bogert died Jan. 13 after a “serious illness,” his frequent collaborator Vinnie Appice said.
Bogert was 76.
“He was like a brother to me,” the drummer wrote on Facebook. “He was my friend for over 50 years.”
Bogert and Appice formed the rhythm section several bands, including Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Beck, Bogert & Appice.
“Nothing was left unsaid between us and I’m grateful for that,” Appice said. “I highly recommend it. Rest in peace, my partner. I love you. See you on the other side.”
As a unit, Bogert and Appice were “dangerous,” Camine’s brother, Vinny Appice, wrote on Facebook.
“No one played bass like Tim,” the former Black Sabbath and Dio drummer said.
Bogert toured with Bob Weir’s Bobby and the Midnites but never recorded with the group.
“A great player. ... Our thoughts are with his family and friends,” Foghat wrote on Facebook.
“RIP, Tim Bogert,” Slash said on social media.
Carmine Appice called his colleague a “one-of-a-kind bass player” and an inspiration to many others.
“He was as masterful at shredding as he was holding down a groove, and Tim introduced a new level of virtuosity into rock bass playing,” Appice said.
