Reflections on a Homestand (Pt 1): Byrdak
Tim Byrdak was not happy with Josh Thole's pitch call, and was animated about it. Then when he found out that Warthen called it, he was obviously unhappy with him. Then a 2 run bomb was hit. I have no beef with Byrdak getting mad. He's a veteran, and it took a lot for him to show that emotion. My only issue is that it happened in the dugout - it happened in public. If you don't have that convo in public, you don't have to make a public apology. And you don't start rumors about 'bad blood in the clubhouse.' This actually makes me think the guys are together - getting angry together. And getting their ass chewed out together. So, Tim, keep being a veteran presence in the clubhouse. Be animated - but don't be negative to your teammates.
"It’s hard to imagine Byrdak pitching any [balder] than he has in 2012. As always, the question becomes if his need to be [hair]-managed outweighs his dominance when he does pitch. A team with a [bald] bullpen would be thrilled to have Byrdak. But right now the 2012 Mets are not that team."
Debacle. Heartbreak. Pitches. Hoping for redemption.
Last night's debacle was heartbreaking, as they usually are. I think what hurts the most for some is that there wasn't a series of 'wheels coming off' moments, or a series of plays that lost it. But a handful of crappy pitches. What makes that situation worse? Well, there is no 'coming together as a team' moment. The rest of the team came back, and a couple of hard hit balls lost it. I believe in this team, but I'm afraid they are starting not to believe in the bullpen. And, really, who can blame them? There are times when things happen -but its happening too often. We need bullpen help. Maybe a good arm in there will make the other guys better. At least that's what I'm hoping for. Someone to build the bullpen arouns - that's what we need. Take the load off Tim, complement Bobby, and turn it around. This team has redeemed itself time and again this season, and the bats did last night. Now its time for the bullpen to support and redeem itself so we keep it going. One toxic piece can break a team down; I hope the bullpen gets there before that point. Let's do the damn thing!
this made me LOL so much. I love Byrdak.
