Remember how frustrating it was when the Leafs traded for Tim Gleason during the Winter Classic only to buy out Gleason at the end of the season and how that’s still going to count against their cap for another three years because Dave Nonis wasted both compliance buyouts? I certainly do!
Well, the Mike Richards buyout is, like, a 100x worse. The Kings had a perfect opportunity last year to exercise a compliance buyout on him and, for whatever reason, didn’t. Now, he’ll count against the cap for 10. MORE. YEARS. Not only that, but buying him out will carry a $4.2 million cap hit in 2018-19 and 2019-20. That’s just awful.
Put in that context, I’m not as mad about Tim Gleason anymore.
Huh. Burra really does look like he’s proposing to Gleason, but using a mini-Holtby as a ring instead. (Cannot blame him, I would say yes to anyone who proposed to me with a Braden Holtby.)
