Atlanta indie rock band Manchester Orchestra is set to release their sixth studio album The Million Masks of God on Friday. To celebrate it, starting Thursday on YouTube at 11 AM CST, the band announced Transmissions from Echo Mountain: A Countdown to The Million Masks of God. It’s a 12-hour event broadcast from Echo Mountain Recording in Asheville, NC, where the album was made, during which the band will, every hour, reveal something new about the record, from exclusive content and performances to behind-the-scenes clips.
So far, the album rollout for The Million Masks of God has been associated with visual media almost every step of the way. It was announced after a 7-day countdown started from the end of a concert film of their previous record, 2017′s A Black Mile to the Surface. First single “Bed Head” sees lead vocalist Andy Hull emote and soar over a chugging noise beat and piano line, singing about two old friends living differently but finding ways to connect. (“You and I are panoramic,” he coos.) Its Andrew Donoho-directed video was eerie and ghostly. The band has also released “Bed Head” prequel “Keel Timing” and, just today, gentle, acoustic, string-laden final single “Telepath” and its one-shot video from Isaac Deitz featuring dancers of all ages.
