Wodehouse? Explain. I want to hear all about it
HOLD ONTO YOUR HORSES
alright so. his parents were v distant due to Middle Class Late Victorian Mores, so he was brought up by his twenty(!) aunts. his older brother was an oxford don, and he wanted to follow in his footsteps, but the family ran out of money, so he ended up working for HSBC, writing on the side. he wrote a ton of musicals/localisations (he wrote the british version of Anything Goes, for example), and wrote a ton of psmith, blandings, and j&w before he was captured by the nazis. and there… he fucked up. they asked him to do a radio broadcast and he was like “lol sure” without thinking about how it would come across to non-axis countries. as a result he was banned from england, his homeland, and so he moved to the US, where he continued to write and adopt pets. he never had children with his wife, and they slept in separate beds, but they absolutely adored each other and they had v happy lives together. fuck i love him
