You ever get nostalgic for old control methods? I tend to miss games with trackballs, for instance.
I know I'm not alone in thinking there's a place for tank controls.
Trackballs are just fun. I think that's still modern, too, in the sense we still have gimmicky arcade machines with weird input methods. Heck, that's practically all we have, these days.
These might just be adaptations of mobile phone games, but they're also closer to midway games than traditional arcade games, in a sense. It's like racing games with built in wheels and pedals, or that boxing game where you put on virtual boxing gloves.
A trackball game slots in there very well. Nothing wrong with a good gimmick.
Or, gosh, I just remembered Propcycle. Who could forget Propcycle?
This thing was a staple of every arcade I ever went to and it was impossible to play.
