 it's easy to mourn. when you see the light leave their eyes and the body still. and dina knows that the light has left ellie. the brilliance that once drew her like moth to a flame gone from her eyes, but her body does not rest. it's not in her nature to be still, the kineticism of her being has always been there and since the body will not still dina cannot mourn. cannot find joy because somewhere ellie moves and breathes and haunts her. she doesn't get to mourn so she falls back on what she knows. survival. she wakes and eats and sleeps and she cares for her son. because someone has to teach him how to survive on his own if one day it comes down to it. teaching him will be easier than trying to mourn the living.
