Playtest Completion!
Another playtest has come to a close. Hurray!
Three of the four players were absolutely new to the game, while the fourth has one ongoing game under his belt. We had;
@yosbruno playing Falon, a Frog leader with a truckload of HP and even bigger heart. @xevinaly was Helios, a speedy Mechanoid scout with sensor drones and a sweet backstory. @daturadraws played Kaikoga, a Moth leader specialized in charisma and who was the first pacifist I’d ever seen played. Last, but not least, we had @asuccessfulbusinessman was Percy, a hawk dive-bomber with a penchant for fishing.
All performed admirably from both gameplay and roleplaying angles, and all managed to generate interesting character builds without any nudging or suggestions from me.
After arriving in the Saber Sea region, the party set course for the nearest port town, Quom, to restock and look for work. They quickly learned that raiders had recently attacked the town and kidnapped the mayor’s son. Oddly enough though, no one was injured in the kidnapping, and odder still, the mayor didn’t want the raiders harmed unless it was unavoidable. This made the players highly suspicious, for obvious reasons, so they began to press the mayor for more information. She eventually revealed that the raider leader was her son who had come to kidnap her youngest son so that he couldn’t participate in a religious ritual coming up in a few days. The player characters agreed to do what they could to return the kidnapped child.
Before heading out, they chatted with another prominent citizen, an alchemist, who asked them to disregard the mayor’s orders. His adopted daughter was a member of the raiders, and the alchemist insisted that she was being led astray by them. He wanted the PCs to go in, kill all the bad influences, and bring his daughter home. The player characters then chat with another few NPCs and each one seems to offer a new tidbit that makes the mayor’s job seem less and less appealing: the ritual the mayor wants to sent her youngest son on has a pretty high chance of death, the raiders may not be raiders at all, and the alchemist’s daughter might have be less misled princess and more homicidal pyromaniac.
By the time they arrived at the island fortress of the raiders, the players had opted to take a diplomatic approach. They approached the fortress on foot and simply called out to the guards, asking for an audience. They were allowed in, and Percy attempted to... Use diplomacy on the alchemist’s daughter. It didn’t go well, but Kaikoga saved the situation from going out of control. From there, the leader of the raiders spoke with the PCs, explained his side of the story, and stated that he wouldn’t release the kidnapped child for his own protection. Surprisingly, Falon then challenged the raider captain to a fight to join the crew. He scoffed, but the frog insisted that he could handle the whole group at once. They settled on a one-on-one duel, which quickly broke down when bother combatants proceeded to fall over themselves with critical failures. The captain sees that as a sign from the universe and invites the group to join his crew.
At that point, the game ended and we cut to the epilogue. The player characters spend the next few days settling in and getting established, when the peaceful evening of the third day is disturbed by a huge column of smoke appearing in the direction of Quom. Moments later, a huge silver shape comes soaring past the island’s coast, heading towards the east.
Jacket transformation status: underway, extremely plausible.
It's effectively a costume for a costume. Airbrushing it into a very different kind of fabric.
awesome, got a cool new necklace! woohoo! finally you can crawl out of the sewers soon :)
