Hi! I just watched Nicole Rajicova's SP for the European Championship and noticed she had a deduction but I'm not sure why. Could you, by any chance, explain what she did to cause a deduction? (I'm quite confused trying to research about deductions in general actually) Please and thank you!
Thanks for asking!
Here is a link to the protocol for the ladies’ short program at Euros. If you scroll down to Rajicova’s score, you can see at the bottom of her box it says Deductions Time Violation: -1.00.
A Time Violation generally means that her program - the actual skating, not the music - was either too long or too short. The timekeeper starts timing from the moment a skater starts to move (NOT from the moment their music starts - this is important!) and stops only when the skater finishes (not when their music does). A Senior lady or man’s short program must be 2:40 (+/- 10sec).
I went back and watched Rajicova’s SP again, and this time timed it myself; her time was 2:51, which is over the maximum allowed time and therefore the deduction is -1.
If you have any more deduction questions, please ask away :)
