Timeless Wells (Flash) - Speedster Chapter 22

An interesting evening indeed.

Harrison stops by some time around ten. Upon seeing your sleeping form on the couch, he smiles. He notices the way your cheeks are a bit swollen. Barry had shown up to his office in a similar state. He didn’t miss the slight redness under the scarlet speedster’s eyes. It appears you both were able to resolve the conflict. Because there was a lighter weight in Barry’s words when he bid his goodbyes. It’s fair to assume that you both had a full evening.

Harrison’s arms slip under your knees, the other supporting your back as he picks you up and heads to your bedroom. It’s clear you’re exhausted. He can’t really blame you. A lot has transpired in the last 24 hours. As he lays you on the bed and tucks you inside, taking a seat beside you. He brushes his hand along your cheeks. You shift a little, smiling.

“Harrison..”

It’s a sleepy mumble and he holds in a grin.

“How was I so blind before?”

Surely he must have been a complete idiot. With all that you went through he made it his priority to keep your needs at the forefront of his decisions so you could acquire all that you needed to live a long and happy life.

Maybe it made him ignorant to basic wants. You were always looking his way, so it felt normal to see your smile or that beautiful twinkle as you told him stories of how your week was going or what your friends got up to. Maybe he was just guarded as well. He’d lost his wife what felt like mere months ago. It has actually been years. The change in timelines and adjustment to universes was confusing. But he knew what it was like to lose someone cherished. So did you. You both have led very challenging lives that somehow led you to each other. If that wasn’t fate, he wasn’t sure what was.

“I promise..I’ll cherish you.

His hand was still soaking in the warmth that emitted from your skin. When you squinted slightly, he found himself pulling back.

“Harrison?”

You yawn, slowly sitting up.

“I’m sorry, did I wake you?”

You shook your head.

“I-It’s okay I was already awake.”

That was clearly not the case. He enjoyed seeing this cute side of you.

“Did you have a good conversation with Barry?”

You nod.

“I did.”

“That’s good. I’m glad.”

You’re still wearing a smile, but you’re now shifting in the bed and he’s inclined to ask why.

“Something on your mind?”

There’s a lot on your mind.

“I was just thinking. If you want to..you could stay..”

The invitation is a bit of a surprise, you can tell by his expression. That slowly changes and when he slides his glasses off, you begin to contemplate if it was truly a good idea to tempt this man.

“What exactly would I be doing if I were to stay?”

“Well we could have another movie night.”

“The last one resulted in me attacking you. I’m not sure that is the best option. Unless..”

All you do is blink and you’re pinned to the bed. You stare up in shock.

“Is that what you were hoping for?”

You can’t deny it.

But you’re not going to admit it either.

Harrison leans over, pressing a kiss to your cheek. Your eyes close and you desperately await it. His touch. You crave it. His head turns, and now you’re both face to face. You can feel his breath so close. If you lean just an inch you can close the space.

Harrison smirks.

“I’ll see you tomorrow (Y/N).”

Your eyes shoot open, all you catch is a wink and he’s gone in a burst of green glowing particles.

You just gape.

He did that on purpose.

Summary: It's the anniversary of Reader's Grandmothers passing. She is moving around S.T.A.R labs with a little less pep in her step, and the team can feel the shift. Just intime for Timeless Wells to come and try to break her free from the tight grip that her Grief has her in.

A/N: I normally would make this more vague about a loved one passing away. I'm being more specific as Im pulling from my life experience this time around and feelings that have been bubbling up to the surface. I am hopeful that the story is enjoyable and something my loving supporting grandmother would have enjoyed it all the same and that you enjoy it too.

Walking into the office, each step heavier than the last Y/N's legs feeling like lead. She barely had wanted to leave her bed as a fresh wave of grief hit her like a freight train at high speed. She knew her friends were counting on her, so she would grin and try to push through the pain. Even though the day was weighted by the anniversary of her dearest friend.

As she made her way to the cortex, her thoughts veered toward thoughts of her grandmother that passed two years ago to the day. She smiled at the memories of baking, dancing, and snuggled on the couch walking movies. No subject was off the table for Y/N when it came to her grandma. Boys, movies, her dreams, and fears that were held with care. The response of any topic was filled with kindness, wisdom, and the utmost love.

Y/N walked in the cortex as her memories soured when she thought back to the last few years of her best friend's life. The teams greeting fell on deaf ears. She sat down scrolling through her computer, but her mind was miles away. She could remember that her grandma would forget small things, what she said, what she did in a day. All things that didn't set off alarm bells until it did.

She snapped out of her memories by a hand snapping directly in her face, "Earth to Y/N," Cisco came into focus he gave her a smile, she returned with a small one of her own, "Welcome back to the land of the living."

Her smile faded at the reality of the statement. The sound of a chair rolling with aggressive speed followed by Caitlin's voice booming, "Cisco!"

Barry sighed, giving him a side, "Dude, come on."

Y/N had to swallow back the tears as she slowly rose from her seat, knowing she couldn't keep them at bay forever. "Excuse me," she bolted out of the cortex, ignoring Barry calling after her and Caitlin beginning to scold Cisco for his insensitivity."

Reaching the timevault, she placed her hand against the wall as the room opened for her. She walked in and sat against the wall. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths flash behind her eyes like a movie real. The pain of her absence felt like it was suffocating her, and she wrapped her arms around her knees and focused on breathing. She jolted when she felt two hands on her shoulders.

When Y/N opened her eyes, she was greeted with familiar blue ones. "Harrison?"

He gave her a small smile, "Barry asked me to come. He said you could use a pick me up."

She shrugged, "I'm not in the mood for Big Belly Burger. You may as well go back to your wife. I'll be fine." A solitary tear fell down her cheek as she turned her face away from him.

"I was actually hoping to come back full time," he swiped his thumb across Y/N's cheek as she turned back to him her expression the same as it was before. "The Y/N I know would have reacted to that." He stood up and tucked his hand in his pocket.

"You don't know the first thing about me." Her face began to warm with ire, "Do us both a favor and go away. Barry's concern was misplaced. It's not like you care. You pop in when it's convenient for you." She rose to her feet and shoved him, becoming more irate when he wouldn't budge. "Even if you did care for me," another shove, "You would just leave. Just like everyone else."

She was about to shove him again when he grabbed her wrist. His face not revealing any emotion, "Are you done?" She nodded as he lowered her wrist down. Y/N leaned back against the wall and crossed her arms as Timeless Wells rubbed his hand over his mouth, contemplating what to say. He stared at the younger woman in front of him, "You're in pain, Darling. Barry didn't have to run back in time to tell me that. I felt it." She tilted her head remaining silent. "You were deeply connected to the Council. Their love for you and their connection to you are right here." He pressed his hand to his heart. "I can't explain how, but I knew you were hurting. When Barry came, there was no question I was going to come here and help." He held his hand out, "Will you let me try and help you? Let me get a chance to know you."

Y/N crossed her arms tight across her stomach. Memories of the night, her grandma dying flooding her memory. That began to blend in with Nash and the council going into the Artificial Speed Force. The feeling of abandonment swept over her, and the tears began to fall. She looked back at the time-traveler, "My grandmother died two years ago to the day. The council is not long after. Nothing will make me feel better. Not today. I can't have another person leave me."

A thought came to the Original Wells as he took a tenative step forward, his hand still outstretched, "I have an idea, but I will need your trust. Will you trust me, Sweet Girl?"

Y/N bit her lip but unraveled her arms and grabbed his hand, surprised at how soft and tender they were. She looked from his hand to his eyes and gave him a nod. "I never done something like this before, but I think we can do it." She gave him a confused look. "Close your eyes and think about your favorite memory with your grandmother." She closes her eyes and squeezes his hand.

In a matter of minutes she waft of sugar cookies entered her nose. She opened her eyes, and Her and Harrison were no longer in the time vault but in a familiar kitchen with reds and pinks as there were cookies in the oven. Music was playing softly, and there was laughter coming from the living room. She looked at Harrison, and he nodded to her to move forward.

This house was exactly how she remembered the colors of the rooms, the stark contrast of dark furniture. The smell of cookies and her grandma's perfume. As she stepped into the living room, she gasped when she saw a young version of herself dancing to the music with her Grandma.

Y/N turned about to go back to the kitchen when Harrison stopped her. "You can stay they won't see us. I can arrange for us to be mere observers." She turned back to see herself jumping into her grandma's arms, and they began to do a lazy form of jitterbug so her tiny legs could keep up. Tears streamed down her face at the happy memory. She was yanked lightly into Harrison's arms as he began to sway them with the music as it slowed to a ballad.

She laid her head on his chest, watching her younger self enjoy herself. She smiled as she sniffled. Life was simpler and easier to navigate when her grandmother was by her side. "She was a beautiful woman." Harrison mutter, laying his head against hers.

Her voice was dry from crying, but she smiled through the tears, "Inside and out. Life was easier knowing she was only a phone call away."

The buzzer went off, and young Y/N raced her grandma to the kitchen. Y/N smiled as cookies were being pulled from the oven, and cookies that were cool were being decorated in various shades. She felt the hot breath of Harrison in her ear, "One more stop?" She nodded her head as younger Y/N burst with laughter as she put frosting on her grandmother's nose.

Harrison grabbed her hand, and they were thwarted to another time. The day she said goodbye to her best friend. She was holding her grandmother's hand sitting at her bedside. Tears streamed down her face. Soft music that they were dancing to earlier playing. "Why here?" She whispered as her former self was sobbing her grandmother not moving or responding.

Harrison gave her hand a comforting squeeze you'll see. Before she knew it, her granmother's spirit emerged from her body. Y/N covered her mouth as the spirit walked over to her younger self and patted her head. She looked over to where her present self and the time traveler stood. Walking toward them, the spirit placed her hand on her cheek. Y/N instinctively bowed her head and felt a cold press to her forehead. "My sweet granddaughter. Thank you for being by my side. Know that I remember everything even during the time my memory failed me. Your love was always present."

The dam broke, and her shoulders shook violently, desperately wishing she could hug her. "I miss you so much."

Her grandmothers spirit smiled and pressed a phantom hand to her chest where her heart was, "I'm right in there. I'm with you always. I love you," She looked at the time traveler, "Take good care of her, Traveler, she is a treasure and should be treated as such."

Harrison nodded his head, "That she is. You have my word she will be taken care of." He wrapped an arm around her as they watched her spirit leave. Harrison held Y/N close as they headed back to the time vault.

Harrison turned Y/N and let her bury her face in his chest as she sobbed. Rubbing her back in soothing strokes and swaying back and forth. "Thank you," she hiccuped.

He pulled away and tucked a finger under her chin to make her meet his eyes. "No thanks needed. We all need closure. Some are just not lucky enough to get it." He rubbed his thumbs against her cheeks, removing the tears even as tears streamed. "Your grandma was a lucky lady indeed to have a beautiful woman like yourself as a granddaughter. I know for a fact she is proud of the woman you are."

"Did you mean it?" She sniffled slowly calming down.

"About?"

"Staying in this timeline?" He nodded in his response. "Why?"

He smiled, "Darling, we don't have to talk about this now."

"Tell me, please. I want to talk about it now." She persisted, holding her breath for his answer.

"I love my wife, but she is my past." The original wells grabbed her hand and kissed the top of it, "You're my future."

Y/N went on her tippy toes and pressed her lips to his for a brief chaste kiss. "We will discuss more about this tomorrow. Tonight, can we just watch movies and cuddle."

Harrison smiled, "Barry has the speed lab set up for that exact plan." She beamed and kissed him again. This time, he kept her there longer. Then they headed to the speed lab where she fell fast asleep on his chest, her grief a little lighter, and her heart full.
