EDIT: Finished
I'm still sick so sketching is easier than using my brain for writing... and it takes so long and I realise I'll have to go to my ophthalmologist again eventually
DC movie verses: we can't depict LGBTQ+ in fear of losing viewers
arrowverse: yeah okay lol, here's the bi badass time ship captain, supergirl's lesbian sister, the gay nazi-fighting captain cold doppelgänger, the even gayer regular captain cold, the bi exorcist, barry's lesbian daughter, the gay police chief, and a gazillion others. enjoy.
Colored it but I wasn’t planning to so we ball
i fear i understand why people were crashing out about supercorp now bc this is absolutely diabolical work
Now that we’re 6 episodes into Dispatch, you can really tell that this was originally a TV show that was converted into a game. Obviously, it’s Telltale, their games always had an issue with making your choices matter. But as of episode 6, it’s clear what the original TV show idea would look like:
1) Invisigal was very clearly the lead female protagonist / lead love interest in the original concept. She gets the most screentime and character development of all the female leads and, curiously enough, you see her reactions if Robert chose to be with Blonde Blazer. For example, the house party scene. If you danced with Blazer, you see Invisigal looking sad in the distance. If you danced with Invisigal, it’s Chase who looks at you. You don’t see Blazer’s reactions to Robert dancing with Invisigal at all.
It really feels like Robert and Invisigal were going to have a “will they won’t they” type of relationship (coughWestallencoughFitzsimmons) in the original show idea. Blonde Blazer would then be the temporary girlfriend who Robert is with for a couple of episodes. In fact, it’s very telling that Blazer’s screentime gets progressively smaller as the series goes on.
2) Even if Blonde Blazer isn’t a twist villain, she’s still being written as a short-term love interest that you’d see in these kinds of shows. She shows up, is immediately interested in our lead hero, and gets together with him quickly (if you choose her route). Honestly, it’s giving Patty Spivot from the CW Flash show (anyone here still remember Patty?)
So if we’re to follow this as an actual superhero show, either Blazer is a hidden villain or she leaves at the end of season 1 because of something.
3) Now that I think about it, this would explain why Invisigal’s romance path feels like less progress than Blazer’s path. If this was going to be a show with multiple seasons, you bet your ass that the writers would stretch out Invisigal and Robert’s romance. Meanwhile, if Blazer is intended to be a short-term fling/secret villain/temporary girlfriend in order to make Invisigal jealous, then it makes sense that Blazer’s romantic storyline has a ton of forward development.
Again, using the Flash as an example, it took multiple seasons for Barry and Iris to get together while it took a few episodes for Barry and Patty to become a thing.
