So Blitzball is completely consuming my time because why the hell not. Problem is it reveals the inherent flaw in players being in control. I’ve played four or five seasons at this point, which means that Sin has been rampaging around Spira for at least half a year, probably a full year or more. That’s got to be what, two, three towns devastated at a minimum? I mean, how many seasons can I play through before I have to go out and actually work on defeating the great evil ravaging the land? I can just see Yuna quietly trying to bring it up to Tidus, but he’s just so fixated on crushing his rivals that he tunes it out.
And yeah, it’s a game, and it’s part of the assumption because being forced into a time limit sucks most of the time, and in a twisted way it makes sense that Yuna and the other guardians would be okay with stalling like that, but I can’t get it out of my head. It’s like stopping in the middle of a battle to play a card game. At least a card game can be a quick affair, and isn’t hard to organize one on one. Organizing teams from all over the world to play in one location is a while different kettle of fish.
Would have loved it if the game just suddenly ended after X seasons because some other Summoner completed their pilgrimage. Annoying after the first time that it happened, but would make for an amusing Easter Egg type ending.
Also would have loved a completely out of the blue ending when Sin shows up to challenge Tidus to a blitzball match to decide the fate of the world. It would be fitting, and hilarious to see Jecht and Tidus throw down over a shared passion to decide what happens to Spira.
Enough pondering. More Blitzball. Saving the world can wait.
