I don't usually talk about this, but when I last tried coming out to my mom she did something similar to malgendering but ableist and I doubt I'm alone in this.
"Would [Chosen Name] do [thing you struggle with do to your disability?!?]" Over and over. With venom. Demeaning and downplaying your struggles, acting like a change of name means a person they don't know replaces you and said person might not be as disabled. It's like she wanted to associate my name with this traumatic experience so I couldn't use it without remembering. She wanted to take and ruin it so I would keep my deadname and stay this miserable husk of a person.
The fucked up part is maybe if I were affirmed my depression wouldn't be as debilitating? I'd still struggle with everything else, I'd still have plenty of limitations, but removing one layer of suffering to lighten my load could make a positive impact on my life. No, it's not going to magically cure me, obviously.
Being yourself doesn't magically cure disabilities, that's not the point? But repressing who you are certainly doesn't help.
