My, my, Hogwarts is certainly…festive, isn’t it? I trust the Headmaster will have this unpleasant reindeer situation well in hand before it become a matter of concern for the Board of Governors. After all, I do hate to think of my girls in such unsanitary conditions. I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only one.

In any case, I’m hardly here to discuss Reindeer, not when the staff of Hogwarts has been so dreadfully remiss in discussing every holiday celebration this time of year. They choose to focus on the banal, when in fact we approach the most wild and exciting night of the year. The day of longest darkness. The night when Dark Magic is at its most potent.

The Winter Solstice.

Mr. Riddle believes - and the Board of Governors agrees, quite unanimously, after hearing his rhetoric on the subject - that it is of utmost importance for students to know and celebrate the traditions of the dark witches and wizards. I am greatly pleased, therefore, to announce that the Winter Solstice will be celebrated here at Hogwarts, in the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest, where we can all celebrating the unbinding of our dark magic.

I trust I will see many of your there. Indeed, I look forward to it.

Time Turner RP’s sixth official event, the Whimsical Winter Frostival, will be round out with the Solstice Celebration, beginning tonight, Saturday, November 21, and lasting until Sunday evening. The Solstice is a celebration of all things Dark, and will probably appeal more to Pureblood students of a more...dubious heritage. That having been said, everyone is invited to participate in the event.

Professor McGonagall stepped in front of the podium, icy eyes roaming over the chattering students, feeling pettily prideful when their conversation all bust ceased at her gaze. She cast one last disdainful but fond look back at Albus before clearing her throat. “Some of you may know that after reading a glowing review of the performance written by Alaric Hodgekiss, The Prophet's toughest critic, your headmaster had booked a Rudolph Daly's Roaming Reindeer Routine for entertainment during the hot chocolate social after dinner tonight. Mr. Daly arrived this morning, but it appears there has been… a complication in getting the reindeers from the loading caravan to the Great Hall.”

Suppressing a smile at the quiet giggles that rose from the first years at her account, she pressed on. “A few of you may have noticed them wandering about the grounds -  I've been told there's a pack currently occupying the fourth floor lavatory, best you avoid that at all costs - but I assure you there's no cause for alarm. Mr. Daly himself has promised that his reindeers are not harmful creatures, despite their tendency to defecate on every flat surface readily available. We are doing our best to get the situation under control, our groundskeeper and Mr. Filch have been hard at work wrangling them, but it might be a day or so before they've been entirely cleared out.”

She cast the students a stern look over her square spectacles.“If we all report reindeer sightings to faculty members as soon after the event as possible, we should be cervidae-free shortly. In the meantime, let's all try to make the best of an admittedly strange situation. There is a certain festivity to their presence, and the droppings will give you all a chance to practice your Scourgify charms.”

There is now a herd of reindeer wandering about the castle. They’re in the bathrooms, the classrooms, the Great Hall, and we all know it’s only a matter of time before they infiltrate the dorms. Mr. Filch will probably get the situation handled by tomorrow afternoon, but for tonight and tomorrow morning, the castle is currently under invasion.

“That cheeky old man... That mistletoe better trap him too.”

Professor Dumbledore stepped up to the podium, his eyes sparkling over his spectacles for the first time since the Murder Mystery party. “Happy Christmas, everyone, happy Christmas, and I hope you’ve all been helping yourselves to far too many peppermint marshmallows in celebration of the holidays to come. I’m looking particularly at you, Mr. Dearborn. I do know how you love them.” He popped one of the marshmallows into him mouth and chewed it slowly, relishing the moment when his saliva turned to syrup.

“Now then, as you know, Christmas is my favorite time of year,” he announced grandly. “And this year I have a very special treat. I’d like to introduce you to...my enchanted mistletoe!” He pulled a sprig of green mistletoe from his pocket and shook it enthusiastically at the students, who looked at him with expressions that ranged from skeptical to downright bored. “Now, I know what you’re thinking. What’s so special about a sprig of mistletoe. But this mistletoe has been charmed, you see.

“It’ll grow in unexpected places at unexpected times, and if it happens to grow over two people, it will loudly - and, I’ve been told, rather rudely - shout and scream and make a general ruckus, drawing the attention of everyone in the school until the two people kiss. I’ve been told it can get a bit violent about it actually, and it is quick a prickly little fellow, so I recommend giving it what it wants.” Professor Dumbledore smiled serenely out at the sea of horrified faces. “There never has been anything quite so romantic as mistletoe, has there?”

Professor Dumbledore has loosed his demented mistletoe around the castle, and no one knows when it’s going to strike! You may receive a message from the main telling you that the mistletoe is targeting your and another character. If so, you and the other player must work together to effect a kiss between your character - friends, enemies, lovers, or anything in-between - before the mistletoe chops your character up like a chestnut. Pucker up, people, because this kiss is going to be one to remember!

“So this is what Slughorn’s parties are like, huh? Is this what they do in the Slug Club meetings all day? Just listen to the man ramble about that one time in Band Camp?”

Event six, the Whimsical Winter Frostival, is finally open! A couple quick reminders:

This will be an on dash event, so any starters posted at the circus should be tagged #timeturnerfrostival as well as #timeturnerstarter.

The event kicking off this week is Slughorn’s annual Christmas party, which you can find more information about in the event post itself. 

Your character does not have to attend the party, but it’s more fun when they do. So do!

Try to wrap up any exclusively party threads by 10 AM EST tomorrow so that we can move on to the next event we have planned for the Frostival.

AND NOW, A WORD FROM OUR ESTEEMED POTIONS MASTER PROFESSOR SLUGHORN...

“Hello, hello, students! I hope you’re all having a Merry- what’s that, Miss Turtledove? Oh, this old scarf? Quite nice of you to mention it, it was a gift from the Princess of Scandinavia, actually, excellent friend of mine, and she has exquisite taste. She’s kind enough to send me a new scarf and fruitcake every year around the holidays. She’ll be so glad to know that this scarf is such a hit!

Now, where was I? Oh, right, right! If you’ve looked out the window lately, you’ll know from that fresh white blanket of snow that we’re quickly approaching the most wonderful time of the year! And, as usual, Professor Dumbledore has chosen me to be in charge of the festivities. Now, of course, there’s all the usual Holiday Merriment to expect from Albus, like that dreadful mistletoe, but this year I’d like to kick off the holiday season with my annual Slug Club Soiree...but this time, with a twist!

In the wake of the loss of Professor Pomona - yes, yes, may she rest in peace, dear thing - who was, incidentally, frequently overlooked when I drew up the invitation list to my holiday party, I’ve decided to open up the yearly festivities to all students, whether they’re in the Slug Club or not. Oh, yes, yes, I know it’s terribly generous of me, but what else are the holidays for, eh?

Anyway, save your thanks for tomorrow evening at the party, won’t you? And if you feel you must bring a gift, please remember that candied pineapples are my favorite.”

Time Turner RP’s sixth official event, the Whimsical Winter Frostival, will be begin on Monday afternoon at 4 PM EST (with Slughorn’s Christmas party) and conclude at 10 PM EST on Friday (with a student-held winter solstice party). A couple of festive events will be occurring throughout the week, so keep an eye on the main for other Christmassy surprises!
