My name is Eva and I’m addicted to Dim Sum. I have joked on several occasions about becoming a dumpling critic and quitting porn. Well both of those things came true and I couldn’t be happier.
I have wanted to check out Tim Ho Wan for ages but I never could carve out the time when I was in NYC. The stars aligned and I popped in for lunch with one of my girlfriends Saturday. There was an hour and a half wait so we grabbed a drink at a shady bar down the street while we waited. Once we snagged a table they were turning down people, I was thinking this is going to be epic.
We ordered half the menu and each dish was better than the last. The service was incredible especially for how packed they were. If you are in the area check it out and don’t worry about over ordering. There is always room for dumplings.
My personal favs were the shrimp and chive dumplings (steamed) and the beef vermicelli roll.
The waiting line has gone, but the food is still delicious. Excellent basic #dimsum fare for the masses. #chinesefood #yumcha #dumplings #timhowan #porkbuns (at Tim Ho Wan USA)
@joansyd pssst...look at this bouncy mildly sweet steamed cake. #steamedcake #malaigao #timhowan #besteats #delicious #projectvanjo
STEAMED DIMSUM PLATTER from TIM HO WAN
Steamed Dimsum Platter I love getting this, it has (almost) all I like from TIM HO WAN…HAKAW, SIOMAI & SPARE RIBS. I didn’t know about the one with the green thing (I don’t know what it’s called), but it’s good and it’s usually the 1st thing I eat. I wish instead of that, they would have the BEAN CURD ROLL (steamed)(i think that’s what it’s called). I pair these with an order of YANG CHOW…

While Taipei is pretty great foodwise for Taiwanese food (obviously), Japanese, Korean and pretty much all of Asia, the one bit where it is a bit lacking in is dim sum. Luckily, we don't often crave it but when it does, there are a few places from HK that have opened branches in Taipei. One of them is Tim Ho Wan so we decided to pop down to give it a try.
We love a bit of chicken feet so ordered these as a first dish. They were well seasoned and came on a bed of peanuts which was nice but there was a disappointing amount of meat on these.
We ordered some sesame balls and their signature char siu pineapple buns. The sesame balls were really well fried and had a nice ball of red bean paste in them. The signature pineapple buns, as with all HK style pineapple buns had no actual pineapple in them. It was a fairly standard char siu bun but with a cookie crust on them. While they did look a little pale, they had a nice crunch to it and the char siu inside was pretty good!
We wanted a bit of veg so ordered some pak choi too. It was boiled and came with a soy based sauce which made it pleasant enough but again, nothing spectacular.
Onto a bit of a classic; siu mai. These were my favourite part of the meal. They were bouncy and flavourful. This was the first thing we had that really impressed us.
The final thing we had were these fried tofu skin roll which had prawns in them. These were also pretty good with a good number of pretty fat prawns in them.
All in all, this meal was alright but nothing special. I've not had Tim Ho Wan in HK itself but if it's like the Taipei version, I'd still definitely enjoy the meal but I'm not going to be rushing there to find out to be honest.
