“On the Victoria Day weekend people in Cobalt remember back to 1977 when fire ripped through the narrow streets of Frenchtown. Those little miners' home caught fire in no time. The whole north end of town went up in an afternoon. Hundreds were left homeless. 40 years later it is still seems like yesterday. There were many miracles that day. The popular story is told how the priest stood in front of the church praying and the fire moved to either side. The firemen said the second miracle was that the Miners' Tavern didn't burn. The real miracle was that nobody died in that inferno.”
