“THE FACE OF THE ARTS”
By Tim Parsley
Founded more than two decades ago Cincinnatii non-profit, ArtWorks, trains youth and employs local artists, providing them an opportunity to work together and impact the community. Since its inception ArtWorks has hired more than 3,300 youth and 2,700 artists, and perhaps their most visible effort is the extensive mural art program. Painted in 2007 Tim Parsley, whose work tells stories of America and “the complicated effect of its constructive ambition,” worked with a team of apprentices to create the first ArtWorks-sponsored mural in downtown Cincinnati. At Race St and W Central Pkwy, and fittingly across the street from the K–12 School for the Creative and Performing Arts, “The Face of the Arts” juxtaposes portraits of the apprentices with silhouettes of figures engaged in a variety of creative pursuits. @timparsley @artworkscincy @streetartcities
