"The young Tinariwen are invited to a new camp near Tripoli. This camp was run by the MPA (Mouvement Populaire de l’Azawad), a Tuareg rebel movement fighting for a new independent state. There, they met a new group of aspiring musicians, including Kedou Ag Ossade (aka ‘Hiwaj’), Mohammed Ag Itlale (aka ‘Japonais’), Sweiloum, Abouhadid and Abdallah Ag Alhousseyni. Their music became interlinked with the cause – the Tuareg’s fight for education, independence and political freedom. Working from a makeshift rehearsal studio, they wrote and recorded songs, free for anyone who turned up at their door with a blank cassette tape. Through the exchange of cassettes – often dubbed copies, or copies of copies – Tinariwen’s songs of hope, struggle and exile spread through settlements and camps across the Sahara." source

Saying a husband’s full name out loud is super important and intimate in Lluna’s culture, and since she’s saying it in her Andalusi Arabic, it makes her giggle. As we kinda know, Lluna does not “like” to show her emotions, so she covers up for both these reasons 🤭 she’s silly

“Buduan/Baduan al-Rabee ibn Mūri/Mūrri/Amuri al-Maqdisi” is the name I kinda made up lol

but the way the Arabs usually referred to someone called Baldwin was Bardawīl (as seen in a place name of the Bardawil lake —Buhayrat al-Bardawil— in the Sinai peninsula, after Baldwin I (referenced in a chapter I published recently) or in the condolence letter from Saladin to Baldwin, or also Baghdawin (Baghdawin al-Abras: Baldwin The Leper), among other possible variations, like simply بالدوين “Balduin” as well. It depends on what language you are drawing from ofc; Latin (Balduinus/Baldvinvs), Old French/French (Baldoin/Bauduin/Baudouin), romançe French (Balduin), Occitain (Baudoïn or Balduin as well, and more), etc.

Idk, but I like to use Baudouin even though it is more of a modern spelling (adding “ou” is an unnecessary modern spelling convention), but in the sense of sound I like it, not just for the recurring “heartbeat sound” in HCW, but because it feels one of the more personal ways to address him, in contrast to the Latin, which feels more ceremonial. Might change some spellings in HCW like dropping that “ou”. And changing others, like Gui, Raimon… (I don’t want people pronouncing their names in an English manner as they read lolll) like I changed Renaud’s “surname” to Chastillon, the old spelling of Châtillon.
