9Bach perform Plentyn
From the Celtic Connections playlist that I previously posted, here’s 9Bach from Bethesda, Wales performing a song in their native Welsh language.
According to brightyoungfolk.com, “this song comes out of 9Bach’s time in Australia where they worked with the Black Arm Band Company, a music and theatre company focusing on Australian Aboriginal experience and identity. The song tells the story of a small child snatched away from her mother’s breast by fierce men laughing. Even without a direct translation of the lyrics the anger of the song of clearly felt by the listener.”

Music Review: 9Bach - 'Tincian'
Music Review: 9Bach – ‘Tincian’
Welsh band 9Bach sets folk themes to mostly gentle music graced with Lisa Jen’s haunting voice. The title of their second album means something like “to move with a tinkling sound, to ring and make a clear sound,” as Jen explains. The music does that for sure.
The disc opens with thrumming anxiety: In “Lliwia” Jen’s voice floats ethereally above a minor-key track. Like the rest of the album, the…
