‘  in spite my extensive observation, i perceive no bridge, but a lack thereof, and consider no other literal connotation prompting me to conclude this putting water beneath the bridge …. be entirely metaphorical. ‘

days of interrupted sleep extracted support beams of rest; the pathway of functioning has become uncompleted, unsteady. precarious, to an extent. he’s lost his way to find himself swirling haphazardly on an individual axis. thoughts fleeting as his focus shrinks. things from refusal of rest  -  at the off-chance the enterprise went on red-alert   -   leveled into a beckoning silence with a curling finger tempting kirk to rest in the most unlikely place: on off-duty first officer ( with sulu acting captain ) mr. spock. 

his shoulder, though thinner with less thickness lining beneath skin and over bone, had a peculiar softness that appeases deeper than physicalities. it has kirk close his eyes with unknown time whisked away beneath him. 

he opens his eyes, barely lifting his head. his composure melts away slowly in chunks.     ‘   mr. spock  ---   ‘   a sorry would have filled the space of temporary wordlessness as it ebbs away in thick streams between them, but he isn’t sorry. not for that. deep down it was a comfort. he clears his throat,    ‘  i suppose i have been more exhausted than i realized, as of late.   ‘

emotions flit across his face: sense of ire, annoyance, overlying the urge to scoff. kirk sees amusement in it, counters it with a charming grin that’s lit the pupils of wandering eyes many times before.  they had joust with ideas til it escalated to silent suspension; each own’s verbal   (   harmless   )   weapons in debate sheathed. 

as a form to reconcile, the captain speaks. a lighthearted sweep - away with a custom term he’s been urged to retire before.
