Quick Tip:

Ive been out in the woods today helping train. I wanted to share a quick tip as not many have heard of it. The top side of fallen moss covered trees and the southerly sides in the summer are often exceptionally dry. It makes great tinder for a fire later on and collection of it takes a second.

Grab a twig or bit of stick, lay it across the dry moss/lichen and firmly push down while you pull it towards you. Two quick pulls had the bundle in my hands ready for the firesteel. The dry weather only aids in keeping it dry this time of year so gather it as you go and drop it in a zip lock food bag if you need to and keep it in your bergan.

Takes a spark nicely and can be the edge if it gets cold quickly or rain sets in. This type of woodland becomes sodden very fast.
