Summary: Rindo Kanade, now 19, has been having violent nightmares and visions of his time in the Underground. This story follows Rindo's journey towards realizing exactly why he's having this issue as he gracelessly and awkwardly navigates his complicated memories and feelings for Beat, laying out a tale that shows the boy's plights of his crippling trauma clashing with young love.

16. Something interesting you researched as part of the process

Oh I did stupid research into what's available at Japanese conbinis for that first opening scene in how to fake-date a hero. Including commonly available onigiri flavours, whether masks are sold, what kinds of inventory might make decent improvised weaponry, sample layouts, etc. etc. Did it matter? Probably not that much. Did I loose like a day of writing to it? Absolutely.

22. An idea you had that didn't make the cut

I had a much more serious idea for the MHA bang, that I chose against. The premise was still non-UA-Izuku-without-a-valid-license meets Shouto-under-Endeavor's-thumb, but a lot darker and heavier. More explicit + heavyhanded systematic oppression and bigotry and corruption in the HPSC, more focus on Endeavor's shittiness against Shouto and people in general, probably also more thought put into Underground vs. Daylight Heroes and how they interact with the Hero System. It would have involved a lot more serious worlduilding around the shitty systems in the MHA world, a lot stronger rebel-with-a-cause vibes. And a complete deconstruction of both the HSPC and Endeavor's career as the satisfying finale. And, according to my abandoned notes: overhauling hero society counts as a courting gesture, right???

25. A scene or image that lives rent-free in your head

Oh i have a very self-indulgent scene in my brain, for a fic idea i've affectionately nicknamed Trauma Circle. Imagine this: extremely codependent Shouto-Izuku-Hitoshi, who have bonded through shared trauma since like elementary school, and give no fucks about what anyone else thinks or says. During Izuku's first encounter with Eri, he goes rogue and runs off with he (instead of letting her go back to Overhaul). Shouto and Hitoshi abandon their internships and join Izuku on a dime, because ride-or-die codependency duh, and then they all go into hiding.

That One Scene is the moment Aizawa finds them and they recruit his help in protecting Eri. It's the moment they draw the line in the sand, them (+Eri) vs. the world. Including all the Heroes and the cops and their teachers, if they stand against them. It's the moment that Aizawa understands a lot of things about his students that never quite made sense before. It's the moment that he (and UA) learns that these kids could be dangerous, if they really decided to go rogue. The details of it change every time think about it, though. Does Aizawa/Nedzu find them, or do they let themselves be found because he's the one person they (sort of) trust? How hostile are they? Just how dangerous?

But man, I have rolled that scene around in my head like a shiny marble so many times.
