"Wait, what?" Moments in New York Architecture, Part IV
This addition is on E 2nd St between the Bowery and 2nd Ave. It's not obvious to most passersby but if you look up, you'll see it, floating awesomely off the side of one building. I always wanna go inside.
This isn't so much an architectural "wait, what?" moment as it is just a WTF moment. A beautifully lit, but somewhat hidden plush Simba toy with a beer can (?) sticking out of his bum hole. Oh yeah, he's on a leash. This was in the Carroll Gardens subway station in Brooklyn. The next day, it was gone.
Yes, this is a Google Streeview screen shot because the photo I took with my phone camera was actually worse. But it's a Google Streetview screen shot of the weird corner of Bleecker, Lafayette, and Mulberry Streets, at the intersection of which there lives a very slender triangular building. Most corners like this become sad green spaces but this one is, in fact, a functional commercial space.
The blurry man likes it! On the skinniest, corner-iest part of the structure is Bite, a small cafe/deli situation, and next to it is the popular Pinche Taqueria. And of course, there's a giant billboard above it. I'd definitely count this as a little nugget.
