Here I am with a new review in “Let’s Listen to”! Today’s subject is a release by the Japanese singer Aimer, precisely the 15th single Black Bird/Tiny Dancers/Omoide wa kirei de (Memories are beautiful), come out last Wednesday. The single’s concept revolves around the need of being more loved, linked to the live-action movie Kasane, which has as ending theme the first lead-song. And now... let’s review!
-Black Bird: the single starts with the first lead, opened by a melting violin, leading up to a decise rhythm and flowing notes; the vocals are deep and really charismatic, driving up this intense and pleasant ballad, improved by a good melody. ---> 9/10
-Tiny Dancers: the second lead is opened by a softer melody, exalted by the guitar and some electronic effect, building up a quite simple theme, featuring efficient vocals, which fit inside the song; a pretty catchy and upbeat track, easy to enjoy. ---> 8.5/10
-Omoide wa kirei de: the third lead song is kicked off by Aimer’s clear and flowing voice, accompained by a light rhythm in a soft melody, exalted by the bass’ presence, for a limpid and enjoyable ballad, maintaining the upbeat vibe. ---> 8.5/10
-Kyou kara omoide -Evergreen ver.- (Memories from today): the single ends with a new take of a song coming from her 6th single Re:I Am; the soft and tender vocals open the track, in a light theme, driven by the piano and a fleble drumming, joined after some time by the guitar; slowly the melody becomes stronger and more structured, for another really good piece of music, ending well the single. ---> 9/10
In seven years of career, Aimer showed that she is not inferior to all her colleagues in the Japanese pop scene. Her compelling voice and the charisma put out in each performance gave her the chance of experimenting several genres, from slow ballads to catchy pop themes. With this single, she balanced the two shades, between three solid and different lead songs and an emotional retake of a past song, built with a great passion and intensity, brought out note per note. Of course the best element of all these tracks is Aimer’s vocal interpretation, which keeps being solid and deep in each style here featured, underlined her unique and quite hidden talent as singer. If you never had the chance of listening to her, probably this is the right moment, in a single which shows the best of her music, without exaggerating too much. A single for whoever needs to get into Aimer’s charismatic and passionate voice, between feelings and lightness.
That’s all folks! See you tomorrow for a double time-travel in “Throwback Thursday”!
