I was waiting to get a coffee in the train station when an expensively dressed white couple in their fifties stepped past me, spread out to take up as much space as possible, and began imperiously making their demands known to the tired looking young dude behind the counter.
I decided to just let them get on with it, but as I saw how rude and abrupt they were being to the dude behind the counter, I thought I’d just say something to them to stand up to their rudeness a little.
When they were done and I approached the counter, I looked at them, smiled, and said, “I was before you in the queue.” No kidding, the woman looked me right in the eye and said, “yes, that’s right,” then turned and walked away.
I asked the young dude for my coffee. He didn’t wink, smile, or say anything, but he gave me my coffee for half price.
