The Circus - Another so so Chaplin comedy
Not one of my favorite Chaplin films, but still contains more than its fair share of laughs. Caught this on one of the cable classic film channels in the late 80s. Right at the tail end of the 'silent' era, but stubborn Chaplin would continue to insist that 'sound' was a passing fad well into the thirties, and that his style of comedy was somehow purer and would never go out of style. He may have been right in one way, but was already starting to dig his own grave with his conceited and short sighted view of the world that was changing around him.
