Through the years, and thanks to many wonderful encounters in different countries, I have come to see the dragonfly as a magical mysterious creature.
In almost every part of the world the dragonfly symbolizes change. And the kind of change that has its source in mental and emotional maturity, self realization and understanding of deeper meanings of life. The dragonfly is a perfect metaphor for humanity’s current transformation into a higher spiritual state of light and creation.
For some people the dragonfly also means illusions, living in the moment, opening one's eyes, rebirth...anything a dreamer can imagine.
Dragonflies have inspired people through the ages in spiritual journeys, art, music and folklore.
The prayer (above) is for those who view the dragonfly as their totem spirit. Totem beliefs are seen in both native american and celtic cultures.
Dragonflies were some of the first winged insects to evolve ≈ 300 million years ago. There are more than 5.000 known species.
The dragonfly is a small miracle, able to move at 45 miles an hour, hover like a helicopter, fly backwards like a hummingbird, fly straight up, down and on either side. And even mate in mid-air!
Dragonflies unique eyes (with over 30,000 lenses) give the ability to see 360 degrees. They can make a hairpin turn at 100 kilometers per hour. At that speed a dragonfly can experience a G-force of about 25 times the gravity of earth.
