and yea, im learning how to do hamons for this!! figures it'd be fanart that got me to do it lol

im thinking just mild steel from rail spikes for the guard and handle, especially since ill have to saw that guard eye and rail anchor steel for the blade? six points of carbon should be enough for a good hamon, from what i can tell

Can't decide if i want that thick ridge at the back?? or if that makes it too busy. hrmm.. ill figure it out!!

Here's one i was excited by the whole way through.

it was my first attempt at forging and brazing a more complex guard, i actually ended up burning off the sleeve i forged into the end of the guard as an attachment point for brazing and had to improvise

i also just really love single sided swords, tbh, i think aesthetically they match much more with my mental archetype of "sword", tho there are some cartoony exceptions

this one was also forged from a "house nail", hence its larger size

i tried my darndest to make a wispy flame-like blade which was fun to forge but challenging to grind the guard was forged from a tiny cast ingot of copper and the flame pommel is from some aluminum bronze i was on a casting kick lol and wanted to make use of the warm colors

My second big experiment! I had no idea if i was gonna be able to make the hilt on this the way i thought when i started, but it all turned out ok. I got one one joint slightly too high but im trying to accept that as one of those "only the maker notices" things.

This whole idea just came from me seeing something called a "mortuary hilt" and really wanting to make one. It's supposed to just be reminiscent of a ribcage.

The blade also has a slight "waist" to make it more torso like. I was originally going to give it a very ambitious Y-shaped fuller, but with the geometries that turned out, i decided to just go for a kind of weird partial upper fuller.

Anyways!! The hilt is made of carbon steel wire and silver solder, the pommel is brazed in place and the blade is made of mild steel. The handle is birch wood.

I tried making a khanda! It's a structural steel blade with fittings of brass and the hilt in lined with faux black velvet.

From what i know, its a holy symbol for sikhs and is center featured on their identifying emblem

i had lots of fun making this! Definitely the big stand out experiment of my current batch
