short drabble set in season 2, when gihun teams up with junho [and wooseok’s team of special forces]
being married to a hwang junho had its ups and downs. for one, he’s a gentleman at heart with dashing good looks to boot. he’s always been passionate of his work— willing to go above and beyond for the sake of justice. he values quality time and his family more than anything.
however, this almost-perfect husband of yours was also stubborn. he’d also always been too grounded in his ways and he has brains so quick that he always has a witty reply ready at hand.
so when your almost-perfect, but unfortunately also very stubborn husband disappeared for days on time, you were furious.
you were even more furious when you learned from your mother-in-law that he ended up almost at death’s door six days later in a hospital very far from your city.
because, if anything, you deserved to get angry at your husband first before he dies.
and so you did get angry at hwang junho as soon as he got better— for disappearing, for not telling you of his plans, for making you and your mother-in-law terrified, for almost dying without your consent, for not asking for your support when you knew he needed it.
it’s something you two can laugh about now that it’s been two years since. but if you’d ask junho, his partner’s wrath still terrifies him to this day.
this is why when he finally gets progress in his investigation in the form of seong gihun, he tells you immediately.
he might not have told you who shot him, but he told you everything else— from discovering a suspicious card in his missing brother’s apartment up to when he ended up in the hospital bed.
that’s how the both of you ended up in one abandoned love hotel-turned-lair with seong gihun, his lackey named wooseok, and a bunch of retired men. you all decided on a plan for halloween, as gihun relayed that his invitation included some club on the evening of 10/31.
“detective hwang’s scared of his partner, huh?” wooseok points out jokingly, albeit loudly given his earmuffs because of the ongoing training, when he notices you beside junho.
junho’s about to say some biting remark when you interject and say, “detective hwang just has a deep appreciation for peace. i suggest you keep quiet if you also want peace, mr. choi.”
your glare effectively shuts up the poor guy as he visibly takes a gulp, causing junho to crack a smile at you. the team takes note of the exchange and snorts at wooseok.
this scary persona of yours suddenly disappeared as soon as it came, somehow scaring poor wooseok more. with a lighter atmosphere, you got the attention of the men who were busy training as you relayed the plans you’ve agreed upon with gihun and junho.
you sneak a glance at junho— who somehow already has his gaze on you that it makes you slightly blush— before proceeding to tell the group that you’ve also prepared them some food after their training. this makes everyone cheer as the thought of food after a long day brings much relief.
gihun enters the makeshift training room and asks for junho. something about hiring a doctor to install a chip in his tooth. before he excuses himself, junho squeezes your hand quickly then leaves to talk with gihun in room 410.
as soon as they both leave, your smile drops again.“your job is to support both gihun-ssi and junho on the field. your job is to keep them both alive,” you emphasize each word.
“if i hear that something happened to my husband, something will definitely happen to you.” the room is silent as you look each and everyone in the eye.
“am i clear?”
“yes!” they all shout as they bow, which satisfied you enough to let them eat.
from room 410, gihun and junho overhear the shouts of the men in response. this makes junho let out a breathy laugh and proudly say, “that’s my partner.”
