Ok, so it’s 2008 maybe a week after Fallout 3 dropped the internet hadn’t finished shitting it’s pants about how cool it was. I didn’t care. I had a couple friend that we SUPER stoker about it. I didn’t care. Chances are I was busy weebing it out on so JRPG, toiling away at finding and destroying some brightly colored anime personification of pure evil. I wanted it all the Fallout 3 hype to blow over so I could at least hear about something else.I think my PS3 controller broke so I head up to the nearest Gamestop to begrudgingly buy a new one. I get to the counter and the enthusiastic cashier guy is like “Oh man, I bet you’re here for Fallout, huh?” I laugh lil bit and say that I’m not interested and that I just wanna pick up a new PS3 controller. So he asks me if I’d ever played Fallout. I tell him that I’ve never been a fan of Bethesda games and this look of complete and genuine surprise falls over his face. He LAUNCHES into this really engaging, charismatic explanation of what he things is just sooooo goddamn neat about Fallout 3. I walk out with full fuckin priced copy of Fallout 3, HELLA excited to play this game I couldn’t give a shit about 10 minutes earlier.I get home, pop it in. The 1950s aesthetic is meh but I’ll live. We’re in the sewer or some shit like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Blahblahblah tunnel snakes are nerds. Turns out the sewer was actually a vault to protect us from the nuclear apocalypse and now I gotta find my dad. Honestly? Totally awesome setup for game. The combat system is cool and from the outset, everything seems interesting. 10 hours later, I’m still looking for my dad, everything is a grey green blur, the characters are all boring and also grey green blurs, and the combat is still cool but NOTHING ELSE IS AND IM BORED OUT OF MY SKULL AND HEATED THAT I WAS CONNED INTO BUYING THIS GODDAMN SEWER LIZARD APOCALYPSE TRASH GAME BY SOME GENUINELY COOL GAMESTOP EMPLOYEE AND I’VE WASTED 10 HOURS OF MY LIFE PLAYING A GAMING WITH NO BRIGHT COLORS OR A PROTAGONIST WITH SPIKY HAIR.
