A thing I put on twitter about what my biggest frustration in regards to politics rage tbh:
Just sayin, contrary to popular belief it seems, people's choices are motivated by their fears for their own security more than their hatred for you and it's sheer ignorance of what would ensure their safety that it manifests in hatred.
Basically: Most people want the same thing which is the safety and happiness of ourselves and our loved ones, the bullshit part comes in with a. not knowing or agreeing on what the actual fuck that means without putting other people in danger and to what degree that matters to someone and b. the unfortunate situation that a solution to one group's problems is essentially trading off the security of another and instead of seeing the problems of others, we only see that concern as motivated by hatred than trying to understand the fear and concern behind it.
And that's where the value in trying to understand other people, even the friggin disgusting ones because while there are people that are truly sincerely motivated more by their hate than self-preservation and double down on it being "the right and natural thing" the thing that matters is the majority of people can be changed by just friggin acknowledging their fears and taking them into account rather than writing them off as having no problems worth considering and no valid concerns. T
That's not even touching the aspect of this where people are grossly misinformed about things that have and have not worked as solutions and shoddy at best research, misinformation, fearmongering, selective information presentation, and manipulation by those in power of said fears of the majority to keep the control they see as the ultimate preservation of themselves, at the expense of whoever it takes to keep it.
A lot of the guilt tripping rather than actually saying why or how shit is a better option honestly just looks a lot like "How dare you prioritize your safety over my safety" and that, naturally, everyone perceives theirs is the only one ever at expense.
