Hey professor teiguru this has been rotating in my head all morning I need your insights
What do the groovelings think of Teio/Teio and Air Groove’s relationship?
aruvu is teio's number one hater, she's not really a people-person, she's not touchy-feely and teio is. teio is very touchy-feely
when teiguru gets together publicly, aruvu doesn't care that much, she's passively happy for air groove, but she doesn't really know teio enough to understand that this is about to be her problem
the next time she sees air groove, teio is stuck to her like a leech
live aruvu reaction: 🤢
whenever they are around each other, they squabble almost as much as air groove and teio squabble
except from the outside it looks a lot more one-sided, admire groove will say like one thing and teio will launch into a whole paragraph in response. it gives the impression of teio bullying a child
and then groove will be like "what are you saying about aruvu? unwarranted?" and then teio and groove start squabbling, and aruvu stands off to the side, shit-eating grin on her face
they begrudgingly get each other gifts for birthdays/holidays because if they don't air groove will be sad.
occasionally, they will have a nice moment and it's sweet but it always ends up the same like
teio: "we had a bonding moment, i cradled you in my arms"
aruvu: "nope, don't remember, didn't happen"
dura thinks teio is cool at first, but then she gets to know teio and is judging all of her life choices and is judging air groove for being attracted to all of that
then she starts dating and she understands, but still, her guru-nee could do better
post-teiguru getting together, dura, kita, and some others are together gushing about their oshis and duramente to kita is like "my glorious guru-nee vs your wicked teio"
personally, i like to imagine a certain homoerotic tension in the background of dura and kita's classic year that has nothing to do with them (they can still have their own homoerotic tension, as a treat, if they desire) and everything to do with teio and air groove
like, oh, teio is going w/kita to scout out the competition and she just so happens to stand next to air groove? they're pushing the kitadura rivalry bc they never got to race each other (to me)
after her fractures, though, things change (this is canon to me <3)
she is still peeved that teio never takes her advice when it comes to living healthier, you pulled the air groove and you're not doing everything you can to boost longevity/your time together? she doesn't understand
this is the simple version, anyway, i have too many thoughts about them the complex version could be mulitple posts on its own
teio has gotten dura on board the afternoon nap train, just a little snooze after lunch, just a little shut-eye in an inconvenient place
rulership finds teio very interesting but hates her, she's studying her under a microscope
reasons for this include that teio is into planning and scheming, like she is, but teio's schemes are all about pissing people off (unrelated to racing) or getting cuddles, which are boring things to scheme about
teio is good at chess, but she only plays chess because rudolf plays chess, and not because she thinks chess is cool (negative friendship points)
also, teio doesn't play games because she enjoys strategy, she plays games where she can get the high score and just happens to be really good at them for some reason? pisses ruler off (if ruler doesn't win, she dies, but that's because her infallible strategy failed which is unacceptable, so they still play for fundamentally different reasons)
ruler doesn't even know teiguru is together, she just knows that when air groove drags her out to practice, teio starts popping up occasionally, and she starts scheming to get teio more interested in the strategy behind the games and make her an even more interesting opponent
she does this by giving teio little brain teaser puzzles every time they see each other
teio hasn't noticed what ruler is doing, because although she's pretty good at scheming, she's pretty oblivious to when she is being schemed (usually), air groove has noticed and she doesn't mind, because telling ruler teio will be there makes her less reluctant to leave her games and train
however, rulership's strategy hasn't really been working out, as teio tends to finish the puzzles (usually beating the time it took ruler to solve them) and then lose all interest in them, even when ruler tries to talk to her about them like, "how did you figure that out?" "what was your strategy going in?" "did you think that was a good puzzle?" etc.
eventually air groove has to take pity on rulership because she just looks so pathetically sad + it's hard to get her back on track for training after every failed attempt and she just tells teio ruler wants to play games with her
the first game they play together is teio's favorite dance game in the arcade since ruler gave her first choice of game and after that experience ruler hates her even more (she ends up joining forces w/narita taishin and air shakur who are also trying to defeat her high score there)
rulership's one-sided beef w/teio to contrast teio's "one-sided" beef w/admire groove lol
i feel like kiseki and teio wouldn't get along that well, which might seem a little strange, when you first meet her, you might be like 'no, i think out of all the groovelings, she would get along with teio the best' but that's why i think they'd kind of clash
most of the groovelings have a similar problem that arises, where when they get to know teio better, they lose a little bit of, i don't think respect is the right word, but i can't think of how else to put it? and kiseki is no different
this happens because, like air groove, the groovelings tend to have big goals (era-defining, leading the next generation goals)
- when we meet teio, her goal is to #1 become like rudolf (through winning the same races) and #2 come home everyday and get rudolf's praise
- she does not have big goals, and while she works just as hard to achieve the goals she does have, i just think the groovelings wouldn't understand someone who doesn't have their same large aspirations
and kiseki and teio are similar, they should get along, but that similarity is the point of contention for kiseki, especially because her trainer brings in kitasan, who idolizes teio, to help guide her and train with her
kiseki isn't teio, she doesn't have teio's supposed lack of ambition, but because her goal is somewhat abstract (though how she comes to define being a manga protagonist aligns with the big goals of the other groovelings), she feels like other people see them as the same
that being said, while i think kiseki likes teiguru because she likes air groove and air groove is clearly happy with teio, it makes it a bit harder for her to wrap her head around how she should feel about teio
kiseki leans back on character archetypes and tropes as a way to understand and perceive the world around her, and the most common relationship between an older uma and a younger uma is a mentorship, and teio is kita's idol, and she's always around air groove, an ideal mentor, so it feels like that's what teio should be, but she's not
i think kiseki tries to figure things out through her manga, making mentor figures who are more like teio, maybe someone who you can't really look up to but who still sometimes give good advice and just experimenting with different things, and this is something she would do with a lot of kita's mentors, the problem is, teio isn't a mentor
i think they would get along better post-retirement or just later in kiseki's career, when she has figured herself out more and is more self-confident, also post-retirement eases some of the pressure of fitting into a specific dynamic like mentor/mentee
i don't really know that much about titleholder, but i'll try my best
she definitely idolizes duramente, so dura's thoughts about teio are definitely going to influence her own
titleholder's goal is to become the strongest living creature though, and kitasan is "the strongest" of her gen, taking that title from dura, so i wonder how that is going to affect things?
if titleholder gets seriously injured, she would go to teio, because dura went to teio, and this would change everything
if what i have deduced from air groove and teio's careers is correct, and what i understand about titleholder's personality is correct, they aren't going to get along <- i feel like i keep saying that, it's not like the groovelings have a seething hatred for teio, they just need an adjustment period to get used to her (which makes sense considering how air groove and teio are)
i just think teio would try to get into her personal space to quickly and then not pick up on what titleholder is putting down when she pushes teio away
they should dance together, it would be fun (falco should also want to dance with titleholder, bc imagine the lifts of the strongest living creature?)
teio, titleholder, and air groove gardening together would also be a good activity for them i think
+ the honorary groovelings, daisca and dober and admire groove's trainer:
when scarlet learns about teiguru, she's like, "uh, are you sure? teio? my friend teio? we're talking about the same teio? blink twice if you need help?" as a gut instinct because literally her annoying friend with the elegant empress, what?
but she comes around to the idea pretty quickly, because she is teio's friend (even if out of vodsca, teio is closer to vodka), and she's like, 'yeah, i guess i can see how someone might fall for her charms' but also 'how did this happen?'
daisca: "you could have picked a worse spica member, you could have picked gold ship"
groove: "don't even fucking joke"
scarlet is just really nosy and wants to know lol she keeps trying to invite teiguru out on double dates
dober thinks teio is fine, she's mcqueen's rival and she's also raced against palmer, air groove could do worse
then she sees teio clinging to air groove for the first time and begging for attention and is hit with the biggest wave of second-hand embarrassment in her life
- she can't hang out with air groove and teio in public, it's too much for her
dober asks teio for lessions in how to so blatantly ask for affection, but she's clearly embarrassed about it, which makes teio embarrassed, and it goes badly for everyone, the world explodes
aruvu's trainer wasn't surprised when air groove announced she was dating teio, which surprised air groove because she thought she was hiding it so well (when they aren't talking about aruvu, air groove manages to work teio into every conversation they have + she has gone on multiple rants)
admire groove's trainer is a big teiguru supporter
they also think the teio/admire groove feud is really funny, and they pretend they have no idea what teio is talking about when she says they saw aruvu start it
they're still surprised they get invited to holidays and stuff (didn't even realize they got honorary grooveling'd)
