You're going to have to be more specific, because "that one post" which people are being transphobic to me over could refer to almost any of them, while "that one post" which is the.. cultural holotype for crab bucket suppression of Creative Commons(?) refers to exactly none of them.

So, given your experience with programming/programming culture, I feel you'd be the one to ask, what do you think it is with Pillowfort that went wrong regarding these really simple; basic security issues going unnoticed for 5 whole years in beta, and what should they do to fix it beyond what they're already doing? Cause, as someone who's been heavily using the site for 2 years, the amount of people calling the team incompetent and dancing on the site's grave has me worried.

From what I’ve seen, Pillowfort’s rollout issues have thus far been unremarkable for a project of its scope developed by a team of its size, and the grave-dancing is mostly coming from folks who want to see it fail because they think its userbase consists of Special Snowflakes (whatever that means to them), so their opinion is of very little value.

No, the actual reason that Pillowfort is probably going to crash and burn is because they have no coherent development roadmap and no discernible business plan, not because of the quality of their code.

(To anticipate the obvious objection, yes, Tumblr suffers from both of those issues as well, but Tumblr also has a corporate backer.)

While we're talking about MLP, if you were to make a new incarnation of the franchise that went for doing something super different as; say; Beast Wars did for Transformers, what would you do?

i've talked about this before i think first and foremost i'd wanna see them build up to the first big villain over time with a bit of a serialized story in the background, as opposed to FiM's first season opening on nightmare moon and THEN doing the slice of life character building stuff. (i wouldn't be surprised if the g5 show does this, especially with it being on netflix. just about every fantasy adventure cartoon these days is structured like this, including the later seasons of FiM)

i would also probably not set it in the FiM continuity, just so you could do new things with it without that baggage. you could introduce new takes on established characters here and there as needed alongside new main characters, and you could reset the worldbuilding without having to worry about tying it in to what the previous writers did across nine seasons, multiple movies, and two spinoff series

beyond that i'm not really sure. i think it'd be fun to mix up the types of ponies more (and the character body types), instead of just having the standard pony body for the whole main cast with optional horns and wings. throw in sea ponies and hippogryphs and breezies and kirin from the start, why not. you could invent some new ones too while you're at it

Am I in the right to be mad that the idea that "Superheroes are modern mythology" is being met with "lol cringe corporation defender" more or less rather than more active campaigning to expand the creative commons so they can be public domain as they should've years ago to be properly that sort of mythology? Cause, god do I hate how the discussions on corp control over culture turn into quasi-ableist "cringe" over pop culture rather than campaigns to free culture for the rest of us.

Out of curiosity, on that post on Sidney Sime you mentioned a lot of the works Sime illustrated for had friendly monsters in them, what would you say are some good ones/your favorites of those?

He actually illustrated a whole book of them where each monster had its own sheet music for a song! I really want to upload and transcribe it someday. Guess I could just scan it and see if someone who knows more about music anyway would want to transcribe, I'm sure it's public domain now.

How do you feel about all those people citing Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets on that one post of yours that was apparently prompted by Supernatural shipping, the one about Toxic Old Men ship dynamics?

yea i mean it’s one of those jokes that makes you chuckle the first time you see it but becomes progressively less and less funny the next 500 times. and unfortunately i do see it every time in my activity page. so it’s like any popular post you know? I’m just lucky that I haven’t had too many of them during my time on tumblr dot edu.

two additional notes since you did ask for my Thots:

1. it wasn’t just about destiel! and i think it’s fun when people reblog it and tag it with a fandom that i’ve never heard of and i’m like wow yeah those sure sound like character names good for them

2. if anyone is thinking of clowning on this post and going “lol what do you mean statler and waldorf was a joke i was being serious” save your breath because they may seriously fit the dynamic i described BUT i’m guessing you’ve never thought about them and become so overcome by emotion that you had to lie on the floor like i have with all three pairings i initially tagged it as. but if you have lmk because you sound fascinating.

I hope this hasn't been mentioned to you to the point where it becomes obnoxious, but on that Four Horsemen post, were you aware that The Day Of All the Blood was actually part of a larger page of multiple joke Creepypastas by Bogleech? It's true, look up Ghastly Macaroni, and Bog even made an interactive "sequel" to The Day of All The Blood as a way of testing Twine out ages ago!

I did hear about this! it actually hasn’t been mentioned specifically to me; I saw when I first posted it and it first got popular that bogleech actually commented on it and mentioned it, which was cool. THE DAY OF ALL THE BLOOD has haunted me since I first read it and it’s still one of the funniest things I’ve ever read in my life. at least once a day, no exaggeration, I think to myself (OR HE WAS A LADY IF YOU ARE A LADY) and I start laughing to myself like a madman. it’s been like, a decade since I first saw it on 4chan, and it still absolutely murders me.
