Notes from Paris International Salsa Congress 2019 (Finally!)
1. Mouaze Konaté and his team really did a great job in organizing the event and executing the "Jungle” theme. The hallway leading to the ballrooms was decorated with leaves and lined with speakers that would roar as you passed through. I even saw someone in a gorilla costume going from room to room dancing with people!
2. My ON2:ON1 dance ratio was 80:20.
3. Karen Forcano and Ricardo Vega gave an excellent performance on Friday night.
4. Between sleep and tourism, I took no workshops. However, I did make it to at least some of the shows each evening, which was good.
5. I realized partway through the weekend that trying to dance in connection with phrases of the music felt better in terms of musicality. It seemed to get good responses from at least some of my dance partners as well. I’m going to try to work on this more. Apologies if the way I’m expressing this is a little unclear, but right now I’m not really sure on the best way to put this concept into words.
6. On Sunday night, I opted against getting dessert after dinner, as I felt somewhat full. This worked out well timing-wise, as on my way back to the hotel, I ran into a bunch of salsa folk at one of the restaurants near the event. They were playing music on a portable speaker and dancing on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. I actually knew one of the women from other events and so I joined in the dancing. Excellent.
