Tittos Latin BBQ & Brew Opens in Greenhills
After conquering the foodie streets of Kapitolyo in Pasig, Tittos Latin BBQ & Brew makes its way to the busy streets of Greenhills in San Juan as it opens its new branch at O Square 2 inside the Greenhills Shopping Center. This was just my first time to visit Tittos and I found myself really enjoying their extensive selection of Latin American dishes together with fruity glasses of Sangria.
You can find the new location at the ground floor of O Square 2 which is right along Ortigas Avenue. Parking is quite easy since O Square has its own parking building, or you can just use the driveway from Ortigas and be dropped off right in front of its doors. The Kapitolyo branched recently celebrated its 3rd anniversary so it is a good time to finally expand the restaurant and branch out into a new city.
The new restaurant opened last July 31, 2019 and can accommodate up to 60 guests with its brights and spacious layout. I like how the colorful murals adorning its walls give the place an energetic and playful vibe.
Tittos Latin BBQ & Brew features Latin American cuisine mixed with Filipino foodie culture. Chef Jerwyn Rabo tweaks the popular Latin American dishes to suit the Filipino palate. Quality is of utmost importance so all dishes are made from scratch inhouse.
They also have a private dining area which is good for big groups of up to 15 guests or more. This is where we had lunch with Tittos co-owner Winslow Co and Chef Jerwyn.
Tittos has some unique and refreshing beverages on the menu. The Mango Vanilla Milkshake (P160) is a fresh mango shake combined with Vanilla syrup and fresh milk. On the other hand, the Horchata Milkshake (P160) is a rice milk beverage with almond syrup and cinnamon topped with shredded chocolate. Both milkshakes are really good but you can also try their fresh juices like the Cucumber Elderflower, Limonada Rosada, and Tamarind Cola.
As for me, I ordered a glass of Tittos Sangria (P280) which had just the right sweetness and fruitiness I like in a sangria. In fact, I liked it so much that I ordered a Pitcher (P595) next, of course, so I can share it with the entire table.
For appetizers, the Nacho El Gigante (P295) is a good item to start with. These crispy corn tortilla chips are topped with beef barbacoa chunks, pico de gallo, jalapeño slices, shredded lettuce, chimichurri salsa, melted cheeses and Mexican crema to jumpstart your taste buds.
This very interesting corn dish is the Tittos Elote (P245). The lava-grilled sweet corn is brushed with smoked paprika butter, Latin spices, mayo, and lime then shredded. After that, it is topped with crumbled queso fresco and chicharon bits for good measure.
The Choritos Con Coco (P295) is probably the creamiest bowl of mussels you can ever find. These mussels are sautéed in a rich coconut jalapeño sauce which is pretty good to mix with rice or bread.
It was Taco Tuesday when we visited so we sampled their signature Street Tacos which are all served on a soft flour tortilla. The Sisig Chicharones (P155) is my favorite among them with its crispy pork sisig, pork chicharonnes, onions, melted cheese, and a quail egg on top. The Chiquittos Tacos (P175) has deep fried chicken tacos with salsa taquera, while the Verduras Tacos (P145) is a vegetarian option which has deep fried cauliflower and tofu together with torched cheese, shitake mushrooms and Latino dressing.
Another popular item is the Salted Egg Shrimp Tacos (P145) with its batter-fried shrimps, slaw, and salted egg sauce on a mini tortilla.
But the black sheep of the family is definitely the Beef Barbacoa Tacos (P165) with its house-made squid ink tortillas topped with shredded beef barbacoa, pico de gallo, chimichurri sauce, and potato crisps.
If you like a fancy snack, try the beautifully-plated Pulpo Inasal (P395). This is a grilled inasal-infused octopus tentacle served with sweet potato mash and pickled vegetables. The smokiness of the octopus and its inasal flavor does go well with the mashed potatoes. This is actually good with rice as well.
Tittos also offers pizzas like the surprising Truffle Pork Pizzadilla (P345) which is a flour tortilla pizza with fragrant truffle béchamel sauce and topped with torched belly slices, melted cheeses, garlic bits, and Latin spices. The smell of the truffle sauce combined with the melted cheese really makes this such an outstanding pizza. Highly recommended.
This is not your ordinary omelette because the Crab Tortilla de Bomba (P525) is a fried crab omelette topped with torched holandés sauce, coriander, lime, and Latin spices. I would be rushing to eat in the morning if this was on my breakfast table.
Rice is always a must so the Paella de Carne (P445) is the best option to fill everyone up. This plate of sofrito rice is good for 3-5 persons with its meaty ingredients such as bacon, lava-grilled chicken mojo, Spanish chorizo sausage, ground chorizo, smoked paprika, egg and French beans. They also have a Grande serving good for 6-8 persons.
To end our Latin American adventure, we had the Zesty Granita Semi-Frio (P225) which is a multi-layered dessert with lemon ice cream topped with passion fruit chia gel granita, candied lemon zest, and mint. It’s a sweet and sour explosion of flavors.
But I enjoyed the Molten Lava Cake (P250) much more with its cute presentation. This deconstructed lava cake puts the cake on top and the ice cream on the bottom! The “sombrero” is a molten chocolate cake on top of crispy tuile, red velvet chunks, strawberries, candied cashews, and Vanilla ice cream.
Break down the chocolate cake and its molten lava will flow right into the glass. Then you can eat the warm chocolate cake together with the cold ice cream for a sweet and delightful experience.
But before we leave the restaurant, there’s one little secret that I want to share with you. See that green door on the right? It actually leads to a secret broom hidden inside the walls.
The door leads to a vault which opens up to the newest speakeasy that probably won’t remain a secret for too long.
Vault is precisely the name of this bar and I was really surprised with what I saw. This is one of the coolest bars I have ever seen and this must be a great hangout spot in the evening. The Tittos Kapitolyo branch also has a hidden bar called RM-16 so they also placed one here. I’ll have to come back here really soon.
Tittos Latin BBQ & Brew is the newest and coolest place to explore in Greenhills, especially with its inspiring culinary options and its wonderful vibe and ambiance. Congratulations to Winslow Co and Chef Jerwyn Rabo for a successful opening.
