ok this took me an age but heres around 81 different versions of marcy's theme that i stole from tj hill :3
i tried to get chapters for each ep, but youtube was not having it so ive put the timestamps in the desc instead
since y'all seemed to like my take on she-ra's princess prom music, here's my version of the owl house theme. i loved this show from the moment i started watching and this theme was a big part of why. it just slaps so much and in my head i always heard it as a rock song, so i tried to make that happen. the last section kinda reminds me of the buffy theme now it has loud guitars.
it's such a genius composition by tj hill because it's all based around the diminished scale, which is very rarely used in pop music or kids tv, especially for the entire piece. it's a dissonant and (for most listeners) unfamiliar set of notes, so to make a catchy and accessible theme around it is extremely clever. i think that non-musicians can probably hear that there's something unusual going on with the chords and melody, but i don't think many people would guess how truly bizarre these note choices are.
because of its dissonance, the diminished scale is popular with composers of horror soundtracks and creepy music in general, which is why it's a great choice for the owl house's aesthetic. but managing to write something that just sounds like a high energy YA soundtrack from that scale is really clever. tj hill deserves a lot of credit for it.
What are the best credits?
Opening - Season 1
Ending - Season 1
Opening - Season 2
Ending - Season 2
so matt chapman voices steve in s2
and on tj hill and brad breeck’s ost uploads he’s credited as singing most of the songs that appear in the show (wholesome magic steady being the biggest example)
does this imply that steve is canonically a famous musician in-universe🤨🤨
i mean his fit checks out at least
