Also, may I just point out? You can’t have a character assume Katara and Zuko are a couple with a baby, have Aang hastily deny that and then have the character go, “I guess I touched a nerve,” and expect me not to read anything into that.

My comments on The Legend of Aang (Spoiler Alert )
1. I found out what was the thing that was really throwing off the animation. The movie is way more anime(ish) than the shows.
Especially in the fight scenes. Where is just power for the sake of power, even if it doesn't make sense. Seriously, look:
How can Toph see what he did? He was literally on the air when he made his attack
2. And now I'm also more than aware why Aang glazers were copying hard on Twitter lmao.
Not that Aang is that strong of Avatar, he's not a fighter after all (that's not his archetype). But c'mom. Are you telling me that he didn't think of using his Airbending to break the fail after jumping to save that dude right in the very beginning of the movie? Really? And him passing out after saving a building, in Avatar State btw, like bro?
Tagah was stronger than Aang even WITHOUT the staff. Bro hold a mountain. Aang passed out holding a slim tower.
3. The voice acting felt off a bit. Especially Aang's, no emotion in lots of his delivery. Somehow, it looks both as if he was just reading a journal and trying too hard to show emotion
I know some ppl are gonna be mad but this is a prime example of why focusing only on actors ethnicity over talent isn't a good idea, especially in VA for obvious reasons. And the guy that voiced Aang is not even an actor at all btw
4. Anyway enough of trashing the movie.
I loved how they explicitly made Katara an active member of Republic City social and political stuff. And I loved even more they explored Aang's traumas. His desire to do wherever it takes to bring his ppl back was genuine, and it's sad that he didn't get to see the New Airbenders in tlok. But I honestly hope there's a "heaven" or something like that to allow him to witness that, and btw this is an answer I would love to know: Where did the Avatar spirits go after the cycle was gone? They just vanish cuz that would be so sad for a universe so rich when it comes to spirits.
Anyway, back to the movie
5. I love how they brought back shit from tlok, not just as an Avatar fan but also as a writer. Korra and Aang having essentially the same spirit, makes sense they would also do some of the same mistakes.
Aang trusting in a guy he met like a day ago and that promised him they could bring back the air nation, and even ignoring the advice of his friends is NO DIFFERENT than Korra trusting her uncle aka the only one who knew how to deal with the spirits, and ignoring the advice of her mentor and father (one which she just found out had lied to her her whole life)
And the denied being basically the equalists of that time fits right with Toph's line in tlok b4: "The names change but the streets stays the same". There are problems that are bound to repeat themselves. That's life and life is a circle
And Tagah himself is kind of a mix between Kuvira and Zaheer. He sure has the us vs them mentality from Kuvira and the recklessness of Zaheer. Oh, and Unavaatu of course, with the whole spirit + bending power
Oh, and they finally explained why there's still sky bison in tlok, something that wasn't so clear in tlok. Since the fire nation saved just a few of them. It tied all together man.
6. I think it's very clear now that Katara is the G.O.A.T of the Gaang.
I also loved how they humanized the team Avatar too. A lot of ppl had an emotional memory that the Gaang was invincible and now we see that they aren't. In fact they kind of died, and half dead Katara brought them back. That's why she is the goat dude
7. Why they treat Suki so bad tho? Not even an mention on why she isn't here. Is like she doesn't exist anymore.
Watching the Gaang vs Tagah made me so pissed at tlok writers. Sokka is a non bender and he's always fighting together with the team, why didn't they do that with Asami? Especially bc she is more skilled than Sokka when It comes to hand to hand combat
8. Overall is a good movie. A solid 8/10
I really disliked that megalomaniac level of the final fight. This and the too anime(ish) fight scenes were my biggest problem with this movie cuz the writing was most fire.
We got lore expansion, a good one. The characters personalities were faithful to what we saw in the show, and we explored Aang's trauma in a way that wasn't possible in the show. That's legit what I wanted to see in an Adult Gaang movie. This is what I wanted to see in this decade of waiting.
9. I have to apologize to Bryke. Not only for the quality of the movie but also for the tlok appreciation in it. I don't know if it was intentional but it was good. Really good. Like I said in the 5. Topic
Always coming back to them 🌓
as someone who's never seen avatar, the set is riding a thin line between "cool and flavorful" and "the most fucking boring mechanics you've ever seen"
