so this is for the first prompt of Cresswell week.
I may not be able to do all the prompts for the week but i'll try to get a few in. They are older in this fic since i personally don't feel comfortable with the age. I like the ship just fine, its just the age so imma change that. If you don't like it you don't have to read it.
Cresswell Day 1/ Suprise
Surprise

Cress sat on the couch swaddled in a white fuzzy blanket. She was staring out the window at the city. She loved the view. It was like she was flying sometimes. Though she had a minor fear of heights, the scenery was worth it. She and Thorne moved up here a few months ago, which explained the boxes still littered around the apartment. Carswell knew she'd never really been to the city, that was why they were going to live here for a bit. He wanted her to have the full experience.
Speaking of Thorne...it was his birthday, which meant Cress had to give him something extraordinary. He deserved it after everything he'd done for her. She couldn't, not give him something. He deserved something from the heart, something spectacular, something he would love. Sadly, Cress didn't really know what to give him. She knew it had to be unique though. So she started by looking up the meaning of a present. Then she followed a link to a website on baked goods. She lit up at the idea of making him something. That meant that no one would ever be able to replicate the love she would put into it.
So she did. She made a batch of cookies. Cress had never baked in her life, more into the idea of programming and coding than anything else. She had never really used an oven but it seemed simple enough. The anxiety of messing it up made her cautious with every turn of the spoon and crack of an egg. She had to get this right. By the time she was done putting it in the oven, she was worn out. Never had she ever put so much focus into one thing. But it was worth it.
"Now I just need to wait." She said, pleased with her work.
Which is how she ended up on her couch, comfortable and drowsy. Her eyelids would close before she would jerk awake, the actions repeating till she fell into a quiet slumber. The ticking of the timer on the counter lulling her deeper into sleep.

Cress awoke to the smell of smoke, it almost made her gag. Her eyes burst open, realizing what had happened.
Oh no.
She fumbled around to get out of the confines of the blanket, tripping several times over her own feet. She ran to the kitchen and grabbed a pair of oven mittens. Dashing to the smell, she yanked the door open and pulled it out. She dropped it on the marble counter.
"No..." She mumbled on the brink of tears.
The smoke alarm went off at that moment and the sprinklers turned on, drenching her and her burnt cookies. It was then that she let the tears slip past her eyelashes. She crouched on the ground and sobbed quietly. She failed. Defeated, she got up and turned off the sprinklers and the fire alarm, her tears never ceasing.
It was quiet, the only sound being the dripping of the sprinklers and the sound of the sobs she tried to stop. Her hands were bunched up in her shirt and her hair was sticking to her face. Why couldn't she do anything right? She couldn't even make cookies. The burnt sweets lying in her hands.
Cress heard the jangling of keys outside the door. She froze. He was home. Would he mock her for being incompetent? Would he be angry with her? Would they break up? More tears fell. Why was this happening?
The door opened and Cress saw Thorne's face turn from a smile to a frown, then to fearful.
"Cress! What happened?!" He ran to her and looked her over. His brows furrowed and his eyes darted around. They widened and he darted to the oven, still open, still on, and still hot. He slammed it shut. He looked around the kitchen confused.
"What hap-," He looked back over at her. She was still soaking, crying, and holding her burnt gift.
"Cress." His voice was soft, sincerely touched. She tried to crack a smile through the ongoing tears.
"Surprise." She gave him a tiny heartbreaking smile. Her voice was shaky and full of emotion. He almost cried himself.
"Thank you." He smiled at her, big and thankful, like he had received the most precious gift on earth.
Her tears ran faster. She bit the inside of her cheek and pursed her lips.
"Really?" A tiny thread but he heard it. He walked over to her and hugged her.
"Yeah." He embraced her softly, coaxing the disappointment and hurt out of her. She smiled into his jacket.
"Happy Birthday." She said. He laughed at that.
"I love you, Cress."
