Saying goodbye to The League of Gentlemen: Live Again. I said it before I never thought I'd have a chance to the League live. It was dream come through to see the show four times (Glasgow, Birmingham x 2, Sheffield).
It was amazing getting to meet them in Glasgow (minus Jeremy). Have to give it to them they made such an effort to sign stuff and greeting the fans. Even in in Sheffield it bucketed it down (parts of Sheff actually flooded) so they couldn't come out but they let people leave stuff to be signed and collected the next night.
The show itself was brilliant and wonderfully staged. As someone who trained in theatre you tend to be extra aware of the technical stuff like quick changes, set changes, ASM/stage hands etc. but I have to say it was so sleek I actually forgot the changes. I've done plays like that where 6 people did 2-3min pieces and had to do quick changes so it's a logistical nightmare but the League make it look easy as hell. Highlights were seeing Pauline in real life. I was squeaking whenever she came on stage. What a queen. Hearing “She doesn't have to eat the chocolate! She can play with the toy inside!” one of my fav lines and Tubbs and Edward’s lament...proper emotional. Only teeny tiny complaint no Mrs Levinson (STYLE ICON....I wore my gold lamé parka to the Sheff show in tribute) or Iris
I wouldn't have had the courage to audition for my drama course if it wasn't for the League. I wouldn't have wrote any of my plays if it weren't for them. I wouldn't have got through my thesises...thesii? if I hadn't have used them in my research.
I haven't wrote recently because of health issues/a major depression session but seeing them live has made me want to write again and made me want to be on stage again. Because there's nothing like being on stage and hearing people laugh at stuff that you wrote and you could see that joy on their faces. Every standing ovation. When they corpsed and could barely get through the Pop sketch in Brum. It was three mates making each other laughing and loving being on stage together again.
Thanks to the Gents for sharing that with us again. I will never forget it. It’s true once you visit Vasey and all it’s characters...you'll never leave! You’ll never want to. Tschuss!!
