Joel risked his life to take an immune kid over 3,000 miles to a bunch of strangers while he built a relationship with her over the course of a year.
Upon arriving to the hospital, he was knocked out unconscious and told he couldn’t have anything to do with Ellie and was told that he basically delivered a kid to their death.
Then they showed no sympathy at all for him or Ellie and proceeded to treat Joel like scum, giving him no thanks for the job he did which cost Tess her life because they thought he should just be grateful that he’s getting the weapons back that he and Tess originally needed for doing the job.
You’ve taken two people from this man - one he cared for and the other he’d grown to care for and expect him to just nod his head and go about his business. Fuck that.

Is she? Look at the horror they’ve just gone through. Do you REALLY think at this point in the apocalypse that a cure would make any fucking difference to the state of the planet? Let me answer that one for you; no.

I mean the probability of Abby having not gotten a single bite or infection leaving that fight is utter complete bullshit.
It’s snapping away at her when it catches her down the hallway before the floor collapses. Then the Stalker that tore apart jumps her in the vents.
Not to mention, with the amount of being bashed about, her mask is intact?
Ellie got ran into by ONE runner in the tunnels and had her mask smashed.

Cure her? Makes no difference.
Realistically, she could kill the bastard and walk out covered in bites and not even coughing from an invasion of spores but her wounds from being attacked are so fatal she drops outside in the parking garage.
Keep killing the fuckers and then what? Will they ever be gone? Can you even truly eradicate them? The cordyceps has been potent for the past 28 years and the Rat King is evidence that it can evolve into something much bigger.
Also; since we’ve had our own experience with covid. Are they aware that the cure might only be effective to one strain? That the cordyceps has changed in its chemistry which is why there is different types of infected in the first place. Besides the ones they know about, there could be way more types of infected out there that they don’t. Take the Shamblers for example or the more intelligent Stalkers.
Plus do we believe the fireflies would even share the cure in the first place? Or use it as a tool of manipulation and control? The latter sounds most likely.
With the amount of division across communities in the world like the WLF and Seraphites being at each others throats, let’s be real…they’re not going to cure everyone.
The most likely scenario is they offer it up to the WLF since some of them are ex-fireflies. That still leaves people who aren’t immune like the Seraphites who make up such high numbers they inhabit a whole island.
The cure would entice an all out war and who is to say anyone will be left by the end of it.
