No I will not shut up about the fact that Breekon mourned his Other Half. I will not stop talking about the fact that he paused for his Other Half to finish his sentence, only to sigh in resignation as he continued to speak alone. I refuse to move on from the fact that he said he felt lost like this, and that he's lacking purpose now that he is no longer bound. I will continue to be unwell that he said this to Jon and Basira, who each lost their Other Halves the same day he did.

Most importantly, I will not move on until we talk about how, in every possible sense of the phrase, he lost Hope.

I think mag 128 - Heavy Goods (Breekon's statement) might be my favorite episode of the show. I really like the statements that get into the psychology of the avatars, and.. well. You can't get into one's head more literally than Jon literally pulling the statement out.

It's.. oddly sweet, honestly. It's interesting to hear a love story from a monster. You get a sense that it genuinely cared for Hope and the circus and, it's cool to see into the mind of a creature that sees all the horrors as family.

he spent so long paranoid and not trusting anyone and now that he’s lost some of the only people who can properly understand his situation he’s trying so hard to be there for who’s left but they don’t want it

this scene also reminds me of a pet theory of mine

so jon is a strong avatar, he is only two years in the job and he is already so so powerful

compare him to gertrude; after decades working under its influence the extent of her abilities was, according to gerry, “Well, she could make people tell her stuff, sometimes.” Maybe she did more we never heard about but given her reluctance to be an Archivist and embrace the eye, it’s unlikely

whereas jon is jude perry/mike crew level at this point, a serious inhuman danger, he can literally “record [enemies] into submission”!

the coma definitely accelerated things, making him literally choose avatarhood or death but i have another thought as to why he is so strong

because he is being marked for jonah’s ritual, all that fear is imprinted on him and i think he draws power not just from the eye- obviously he is its avatar and that is how that power will always manifest- but by literally consuming other fears he is fueled by them and being this horrible linchpin of terror makes him even stronger than jonah anticipated
