Favourite Episode Masterlist
Can we please acknowledge the absolute storytelling GENIUS of MAG124: Left Hanging where our favorite bbg archivist eats an account about surviving the Vast in a literal rocking, hanging cable car paralleled by Jon's experience of being left hanging by Martin's strengthening alignment with the Lonely? Because the symmetry is amazing but also there's also a quiet joke regarding that saying - "you are what you eat".
ARCHIVIST
W-w-well – it was – good – It was good to see you.
🥺🥺🥺 soft.....
MARTIN
…Yeah.
ARCHIVIST
Yeah…
...and martin won’t say it back of course
You can hear Jon’s disappointment and resignation in his last line - literally no-one has been happy to see him since he woke up but surely, he thinks, surely Martin will be happy, they’re friends, aren’t they? Martin will welcome him back and tell him he is glad he is okay- they’ll grab a cup of tea and commiserate about the state of things and their weird coworkers
that is what he was expecting
instead he gets this, he gets Martin dismissive, stand-offish, not interested in holding a conversation with him
and albeit unintentionally, he makes jon think that he is just the same as the rest of them, clearly unhappy that he lived
Top 5 TMA moments :3
Oh boyyy there are so many!
I'm gonna go with the ones I've enjoyed comedically/ones I go back to relisten to lightly rather that the really dramatic ones that make your heart stop (eg episodes 91, 154, 170, you know the ones)
And I'm probably missing a bunch, especially from the early seasons with Tim and Martin and so much from season 5 etc but here you go!
Episode 95, Martin talks about Jon and Basira reveals herself to have been there the whole time making him jump 10 feet in the air xD
And I get that he’s worried about us. I mean, we worry about him as well.
I worry.
And we should just –
BASIRA: Could you pass me that pen?
[NERVOUS, SURPRISED SPLUTTERING]
MARTIN: Oh, er… Hi Basira… Um, how long have you been there?
BASIRA: Erm, I don’t know. Couple of hours? Why?
MARTIN: Y-you didn’t say anything.
BASIRA: Yeah, I was reading.
[MARTIN CLEARS HIS THROAT]
Did you need me?
Episode 111. That's it. Just Jon and Gerry's whole conversation. Absolutely iconic. Especially the 'obviously vampires' line.
Episode 121 Oliver being Oliver. I love him
GEORGIE: Can I help you?
OLIVER: Oh, I, I’m a friend. Of John’s.
GEORGIE: Are you, now.
OLIVER: Uh, y-yes.
GEORGIE: Right. Just haven’t seen you visiting before.
OLIVER: Umm, I’ve… been out of town!
GEORGIE: Right. The nurse didn’t say anyone else was here.
OLIVER: Oh! Oh, oh, well. Sorry if I surprised you.
GEORGIE: It’s fine.
OLIVER: …I’m Antonio!
GEORGIE: [sarcastic] Sure.
Episode 124. I've already talked about this extensively but just read:
ARCHIVIST: (overlapping) H-how are you, Martin? I-Is everything…
MARTIN: Yeah. Yeah, no, I’m, I’m alright, uh… everything’s… fine.
ARCHIVIST: Right. Um… how’s… h-how’s the poetry?
MARTIN: Oh, uh, well, I haven’t exactly had a lot of time recently, so…
ARCHIVIST: Yes, of course.
[MARTIN HMS]
Episode 140. That's my rib...
BASIRA: But I think – Have you got a pen?
ARCHIVIST: Uhh – Yeah, i-in the drawer.
[BASIRA OPENS THE DRAWER.]
BASIRA: Ah, John. What’s this?
[SHE PICKS SOMETHING UP.]
ARCHIVIST: Hm? Oh. That’s… I, th, uh – that’s my rib.
BASIRA: (Pythagorean theorem, volume of a cone) Right.
[SHE PUTS IT BACK.]
ARCHIVIST: Yep.
BASIRA: And… the jar of ashes.
ARCHIVIST: (stress.exe) Not – not, m,mine – I mean, it belongs to me, I, I, I guess, but it’s not – stationery is in the, uh, other drawer.
[SOUNDS AS THE STATIONERY IS RETRIEVED.]
BASIRA: Right, thanks.
I think the static is Jon Knowing that Martin was there, if anybody asks me.
Is this the scene I keep going back to again and again and again? Yes. Yes it is.
