For anyone with a Catholic background, the extra layer of horror has to do with confession. It's supposed to be utterly sacrosanct, with the priest hearing [beholding] sins and forgiving them.

The colors correspond to liturgical calendar seasons but have meanings
Green is hope. Purple is atonement. White is celebration.
I think he says "Not even red" or I just imagined it
Because red is death - Good Friday, Passion Sunday
