screencap redraw! M•ARTIN and JON aren’t having a great time on board the starship The Magnus Institute...
[ID: a series of scene redraw pictures of Martin and Jon as WALL-E and EVE, respectively. They’re standing in a futuristic elevator, with an awkward silence between them. The walls behind them are covered in glowing panels. Martin’s trying to make himself smaller, and looks up, intrigued, at a black screen above the elevator door. Next to him, Jon stands stiff and agitated, looking to the side. The view shifts for a moment to behind them, so we can see what’s displayed on the screen. In warm heat-vision view is a picture of them in front of a crowd and the word “caution” in all caps, wanted as fugitives on the ship. In the picture, Martin’s holding both hands up and looking worried, while Jon stands in front of him, firing up his arm cannon and glaring at the camera. Martin points towards the screen, and Jon looks noticeably more irritated, shoulders raised. Martin tries to point out the screen and say something, but Jon simply glares at the screen, and fires his arm cannon at it with no hesitation in a blast of white and green light. Jon resumes his original position, looking down at the floor. Martin curls back in on himself in fright with an expression of quiet terror. The screen is crooked now, knocked down slightly from its place on the wall, and smoke fills the elevator. The awkward silence only increases. End description.]

here’s your wall-e jmart in Constant Rambling! big shoutout to whoever said on one of my wall-e au posts that Martin deserved heelies as a counterpart to Jon’s jet propulsion.... I think about that every day
[Image Description: a digital picture of Martin and Jon as WALL-E and EVE, respectively, with a blue, yellow and red palette. Martin is drawn with warm colours like yellow, orange and red, while Jon is drawn with cool colours like white and blue. Martin stands with both arms extended and a curious expression, one leg lifted. His boots have small blue wheels attached to the heels. Beside him, Jon laughs, eyes closed. He’s hovering using his jet propulsion. Around them are clouds of red, yellow and orange smog and haze on the ground, and far in the background are blue silhouetted towers of cubed garbage. Next to them is the original palette itself. Below, an anonymous ask reads, “Oh my goodness I would love to see some more of your wall e au with... Constant rambling perhaps?” End description.]
thank you anon, have some gay disaster robots on the house
Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars...
[Image description: a picture of Martin and Jon as WALL-E and EVE, respectively. They are back-on to the viewer, sitting together on an old metal shipping container in a pile of junk, holding hands. It is night time. They are looking up at the moon, bright and shining through the smog and cloud cover. In the distance sits a silvery haze, and tall towers of garbage and waste. The scene is purple-toned and peaceful. End description.]
Just let Martin have his moment, Jon, he hasn’t talked to anyone else in 700 years let him be excited
[Image description: a comic featuring Martin and Jon as WALL-E and EVE, respectively. It’s late in the evening, and the background is warmly lit by a fire offscreen. The two are having a conversation.
Jon’s LED eyes flicker as he asks Martin questions in various languages: “Weisung”, “命令“, “Ayimonkos”... Martin’s eyes widen and he gasps slightly in recognition at “Directive”, finally hearing a language he understands. Jon takes note and asks Martin again what his directive is. Martin looks around the ground, mumbling “uhh...” before stumbling a couple feet away to some piles of trash.
We see Jon being less than impressed as Martin turns away, making a cube. Martin turns back and the cube falls to the ground with a small *thump*, prompting Martin to say “Ta-da!” Jon floats closer, and they both look at the cube, which has collapsed back into a vaguely square-looking heap with an *uncubing noise*. Martin mumbles a sad “oh...” at this. Jon’s *disdainful eyeroll* doesn’t get Martin down, however. Martin turns to a surprised Jon and asks in turn, “...Directive?” Jon frowns and looks to the side, crossing his arms and muttering, “Classified.” Martin looks down again sadly with a quiet “Oh...”
Beneath this, a screenshot of an anonymous ask reads, “I’m imagining JON asking “Directive?” And M-ARTIN grabs some trash, makes a cube and goes “Tada!” JON rolls his eyes, unimpressed.” End description.]
I didn't think I cared about Wall-E but oh boy that au art does things to my heart!!! You said you'd thought about almost all the aspects of the au, do you mind sharing your thoughts on it?
ooooooh gladly:
• the mega corporation BnL featured in WALL-E would in this case be replaced by the Beholding, for lack of a better description; the various institutions that serve the Eye from canon, like the Usher Foundation and of course the Magnus Institute would be the starliners
• yes I have figured out what Martin and Jon’s names would stand for in this au, though whether or not they have is unclear - Martin would be Magnus (Institute) Autonomous Rehabilitation Terraforming Intelligence, still tasked with cleaning up the earth, while Jon is more mysterious. They’ve figured out Observatory Network, but neither of them are sure what the J represents...
• I could see the wasteland Martin lives in to possibly be the result of a partially-failed ritual, much like the original Watcher’s Crown; Jon is sent to Watch, to see whether or not Earth has healed enough to possibly sustain a second attempt (spoiler: it can’t)
• most of the main magnus cast would be recast as various bots, mostly on Jon’s home ship. Tim and Sasha would likely be the cleaning bots (or perhaps something I can make up that can be more relevant, I haven't decided yet), Daisy or Basira could be security, etc. Like in canon, Jon would probably know them better than Martin, but they’d meet soon enough ;)
• I am DYING to have og elias as the captain, doing minimal work and mostly being a puppet and pretty face for the AI really in charge - no one’s sure of its name, or how long it’s been around, but it seems to be as old as the ship, if not older...
• plotwise i think it would mostly follow that of WALL-E, but like, with some tma flavouring,,, as a treat
• Martin is solar powered (spot the panels!) and much more hardy than Jon. He’s probably got spare parts tucked away in case something gets dented or broken beyond repair. He is also stuck walking wherever he goes, and is quite enthralled with the way Jon just floats around everywhere
• Jon’s LED eyes can emote more than Martin, and in some pretty creative ways, too, I’m sure there are examples of this kind of thing on YouTube and other places. The pattern on his chest also opens up panels to reveal more eyes when he feels threatened or scared, or if he’s looking hard for something
• the little roach Hal from WALL-E would be replaced with a spider Martin considers a friend. Let’s just say the first meeting between it and Jon didn’t go well
• I’m sure their dynamic is similar to canon s1 at first - Jon trying to be Professional and fulfill his directive, and Martin trying to get to know him and be a friendly presence, much to Jon’s chagrin. it’s only when Martin leads Jon out of a dust storm and into his hideaway that Jon begins to show some fondness
• aaand that’s about all I’ve figured out so far uh. I hope this is okay and thank you for coming to my ted talk
